Happy growers and resilience in my oasis
I know it’s been a while! I’m fighting fungus knats & seasonal depression 😆🤭❄️ but I’m here to report good news! I have some happy growers in my oasis still, & im grateful as ever to see that I still have a green thumb and problem solving skills! Here’s what we have today….
-Calico hearts 🖤 so glad these have been doing good, I have since repotted her (& her baby that isn’t pictured yet) and they are both doing great, and have new growth.
-2&3 Graptosedum California sunshine ☀️ these have been super easy ever since I got them and continue to put off new growth after any leaf drop. They are super resilient in my eyes and have even done well in the cold!
- 4 Graptoveria opalina 🌈 super plump and healthy she’s also been super good to me all summer & even now. She’s so perfect 🥺
- 5 tiger jaws, even though he has some red mite looking things he is still puttingg off new growth and doing his best 🤞🏻😳 (don’t worry I willl be addressing the bug issue asap) and yes he has sun scars but he has managed to still look and grow his best.
These plants all show me what resiliency can be, and remind me to keep going even when the sun isn’t shining in my world 🤞🏻🌱 I hope everyone is getting through the cold weather, (if you’re experiencing that, if not I greatly envy you 😆) #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #CalicoHearts #Graptoveria #Graptosedum #Faucaria #AndromischusTriflorus #HappyPlants #NewGrowth #PlantShelfie #wintergrowth #Succulents

@TidyTigerpear Hey Kaitlyn!! Your plants are singing!!! So many healthy, lovely specimens. We're you able to keep all of them, or did you donate or gift some?
@plantstate I did donate some to friends and family ! I was able to keep a good amount but I’m still weeding through everything and deciding what will be best for them all!
@TidyTigerpear Good for you. I'm a fan of Hydrogen Peroxide (water & oxygen) to rid the house of gnats and plants of larvae. I use the yellow sticky traps to track progress. I'm 98% gnat/larvae free. Whew.
@plantstate that’s awesome ! I’ve heard that works but I’m nervous to use that method because I’ve heard some horror stories, and I don’t want to end up making it worse ! I might have to do an experiment with one plant to see how it goes ! Also the traps I got were the ones that are supposed to be less visible and you can stick them to a window (they are clear, about 2’inch by 6’ inch rectangles, the idea of it not being an eyesore was a nice, but as far as efficiency, I don’t think it was that great, so (i probably should’ve went with the yellow tape instead) but I still managed to catch some knats with it. The yellow would just cover more surface area which is ideal. But so far we are making progress ! 🤞🏻❤️🩹😊
Definitely get some yellow sticky traps. These gnats are attracted to the color yellow. 😍 I went through this last year. I swear by the peroxide method and a few pots that had the most gnats on the traps got new soil and pots. It was well worth the time spent. I, too, have SAD it really sucks. Hang in there kiddo it will get better. Immerse yourself in plant life it helps.
@TidyTigerpear The yellow stickies are unsightly and annoying. They've stuck to my hands and clothes too many times to count, and I was losing the war. Next step - go after the larvae which lived in the top 1 or 2 inches of soil. I used 1/ 4 cup HP and mixed it with 1 cup water..a 1 to 4 ratio. HP is $1 at Walmart.
What do you know....it worked. Now I use the yellow sticky traps sparingly to monitor activity. I've never caught more than a couple in various areas. The yellow stickies need to be placed in the soil in the pot, so the gnats entering to lay eggs or departing after they've finished will stick. And, others Gregers may agree, the plants were happy with that hit of oxygen their roots got. Love your idea - try it in 1 or 2. You may surprise yourself.

@plantstate for sure I will! Thank you for the help !
