Never give up! Never surrender!
#notdeadyet #NewGrowth #itsabouttime #greggang My brother gave me this vittata along with a musaica and never never ctenanthe last December. The ctenanthe has been fine, and the musaica eventually put on loads of new growth when spring rolled around. This one did nothing. It’s been frustrating because I knew it had good roots, but it would not give me any new growth and the original leaves were starting to die completely. I was on the verge of throwing it out, but took it out to the enclosed back porch before we left on a 4 day trip. Apparently, it wanted to be warmer? Not one, but two new shoots! I had literally picked it up to throw it away when I spotted them! The house is usually around 70F, but it would have been probably close to 90F on the back porch. So now I wonder, should I just leave it on the back porch where it will be ungodly hot and humid all summer (central Indianaβ€”the corn sweat is real) or move it back inside until fall? #happyplants #calathea

@TopFlyingsquid Hi Rachael ☺️ Wow good catch! I would definitely say it wanted warmer! Lol if it was doing better out there I would probably leave it out there! Just keep an eye on it as it gets warm through the summer. Which once you find a good spot the weather will start changing and you'll have to start finding another spot for the silly thing! Plants can't actually speak to us but if we pay attention to the signs they give us they will most definitely let us know what they like and what they don't. Right? So cool! Sometimes we have to figure out what they like and what they don't by moving them around to different places in your home just to see how they react and hopefully you figure it out before it finally calls it quits. I'm actually doing that to one of mine right now! I finally put its little butt outside on the patio in the shade. We'll see how it goes. ☺️ Good luck with yours! New growth is a good sign. Maybe put it near a humidifier?
Just be careful, it looks like it might have a mild pathogen infection or some powdery mildew.. I couldn’t tell for sure but it looks so. How much are you watering and letting it dry before rewatering? Secondly check and make sure it’s getting good indirect light (even mine I have in a window I keep a grow light so it gets enough) but air flow! - how much airflow is it getting as well. Otherwise I think she looks like she’s making a great comeback!
