Tissue culture update ‼️‼️

Now that they’re fully acclimated to my house humidity, it’s time to repot these babies! The pink banana Musa lost all roots when I washed the agar off about 8 weeks ago. Now it’s root bound! I repotted that one to a 3” pot. The jungle fever and red Anderson are working on foliage rather than roots, they’ve been losing and gaining leaves like crazy but they don’t have a ton of roots. Those two were repotted back into the seed tray but I replaced the potting medium to regular airoid soil. They’re all doing great and I’m so happy I tried this! 🌱

Wow. I am fascinated with the idea of tissue cultures and want to try some myself one day but wonder about the cost. Your plants look really good, thanks for sharing.
@Seymour It surprisingly wasn’t too expensive to do! I had to buy seed trays with a humidity dome, a grow light, fluval stratum (potting medium) and fungicide. I think it’s worth it if you have a wishlist plant that costs way more money than you’re willing to spend! For example, I’ve wanted a jungle fever philodendron for a while, but the one I had been looking at was in a 4” pot and was listed as $375 (USD). I bought a tissue culture for $100 at Orange Lake Nursery. So I saved a couple hundred dollars growing these in tissue culture form rather than buying full sized plants. It’s a neat experience in any case!

@Bplants Thanks so much for sharing your experience, Bee. There are a few plants I had in mind which are expensive (eg starting at $330 USD plus). I hear the potting out can be a critical time so its good you managed it. Thanks for the links and taking the time to reply 👍😀
@Bplants So great to see your tissue culture’s progress. I’m sure this was a fun experience. I’m so happy the Musa roots grew. He sure was ready for a repot. I cannot wait to see its wild foliage as it grows. Your transitioning to aroid soil on your Anderson & Jungle Fever was a smart decision. These plants are getting the best care. I am looking forward to seeing all your hard work pay off. Proud plant Mama moment. 💚🪴
@Seymour Hey you’re welcome, thank you for your interest!! Deflasking is definitely stressful. Just making sure you get all of that agar off is the most critical part. Everything else was a cinch! I highly recommend trying it if it interests you! 🥰🥰
@Rockrlee Thanks Rockrlee❤️❤️ I couldn’t believe the roots came back with a vengeance like that! The other two need to grow those roots and stop changing leaves out 😂 proud plant mama moment for sure!! ❤️
They look great!
@GaryPoopins hey thanks! Slowly but surely!!
@Bplants So amazing!! Thanks for sharing and for the updates! 🤩🍀
@Bplants Aww, yayy! I’m so happy to see this update. These are beautiful! You are doing an amazing job 👏
@SunnyPlants Thank you!! 🥰🥰
@RainbowFairy Thank you! I’m so happy they’re doing good!! ❤️❤️
👏 great job. They are looking so happy.
I am so happy you keep updating this process. My friend and I were looking at doing some tissue cultures for a few plants but I didn’t know much about it and if I could pull it off. But I have gained some confidence just watching you! Thanks!
@TheOddAsity Aww thank you!! ❤️ It definitely felt more intimidating than it should! Plantsinjars on YouTube was SO helpful! I watched every single one of her tissue culture YouTube videos before I started the process and I learned so much from her! I also ordered my tissue cultures from Orange Lake Nursery and they had a QR code on the package that led you directly to a link on how to deflask and acclimate! If you ever try it and have questions, definitely tag me I’d love to help!! Here’s that YouTube link:
