Prim is just showing off her newly unfolded leaf today๐ A little late for #freshleaffriday
I just can't believe how much she has grown since I got her as a tiny baby almost a year ago. (It is her birthday soon, just a month left ๐ฅณ). You really can not recognize her๐๐ฑ๐ชด
Crossing fingers next year will be just as rewarding as this one.๐ชด And that her leaves will survive the dryness of winter as she has grown too big for my calathea-cabinet๐
Picture from when I got her and today๐๐ Who knew she would be my prettiest grower๐

Thank you @CourtlyKingfern, @SteffyHazPlants ๐
The secret is getting a good plant I think๐ Feel I have been really lucky with this one. Just waiting for the tantrum that most of them have at some point๐
Although I have been reading her signs right, so that definitly helps๐ I think it is important to start with a small enough pot and try not to overdo anything ๐

@M_i_a_roots haha, oh well... uhm๐
I started off with a repot (after bad experience with root-rot earlier, best to check the roots right away๐ ), and quaranteene. After a week she got to live with my other calatheas in their cabinet during the winter. It has a dim growlight. The cabinet helps with keeping the humidity a little higher, aprox 60% in winter (while I get 40% in the livingroom).
I have let her soil get pretty dry before watering, sometimes I have been a little late and the oldest leaves starts to get sloppy and I got some dry tips ๐ But atleast then I don't get rootrot๐ I use rainwater.
After 6 months she started killing off the oldest leaves at the bottom, but was still pushing out new leaves. Turned out she needed a new repot to a slightly bigger pot. She was moved out of the cabinet a week later to get her new soil to dry up a little quicker. Se didn't mind and has been standing in the middle of the dining-table since, 3,3 feet from a big southern window (but not getting direct sunrays), as is why her leaves have gotten more pattern and less pink.
She gets small doses of liquid fertilizer now and then, dissolved in water, when I see she is hesitating to push out new leaves๐
After 4 new months she started killing off the bottom leaves again so there was a new repot (last month)๐ I usually try to wait untill they don't have new leaves coming in, as they often turn out a little wonky after a repot, but she has had no problem at all! I made sure to not touch her rootball at all for this last repot, just made her a snug fit in a slightly bigger pot๐
I am a little unsure of how to solve her placement this winter, as she has grown too big for the cabinet๐ The sun is lower on the sky during the day and streches longer into the room and touches her leaves where she is at now๐ And the dryer air as we are heating with firewood. I have a humidifyer, but am counting on some dry tips๐
So that was a mouthful.. Let me know if you made it this far๐

@MockingJay I am amazed. I cannot get mine to grow. I finally tried repotting her into a self watering container with distilled water. She seems to like this Better. I can only hope mine turns around like yours!
@Plant-Tmom they are definitly tempremental for sure! I have had some struggles with my Dottie too.
They are all acting up differently, even if they are in the same family๐คทโโ๏ธ Even those that I have separated from the same plant act different from each other๐ชด
Here is my little Dottie, she is still recovering after losing almost all her roots (and all her leaves) to root-rot last year.
I sure do hope yours comes around too๐
