FORKED SUNDEWS (DROSERA BINATA)
Welcome to #cpclubthursday
Thursday AUGUST the 8th, 2024
🌟OVER 155 MEMBERS !🌟

FEATURE: Forked Sundews

Lots of people have heard of the CPs called sundews but for most people it means Cape Sundews (a great beginner CP!). But some sundews like a good fork ! 🍴

I’ll let Dr Wikipedia provide an introduction:

β€œDrosera binata, commonly known as the forked sundew or fork-leaved sundew. It is a large, perennial sundew native to Australia and New Zealand. The specific epithet is Latin for "having pairs" - a reference to the leaves, which are dichotomously divided or forked.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drosera_binata

So does any #cpclubthursday member have a forked sundew or planning to get one?

Add any interesting Carnivorous Plant (CP) facts, photos, or anything CP-related for this week.

Or ask a question of our members related to CPs
Join the CP just by clicking the link #cpclubthursday and clicking join. That is all it takes! Too easy! Shall we make it to 160 members ?

There is already a wealth of CP so why not just join our growing CP community at #cpclubthursday!

Happy Chompys 😊πŸͺ°πŸ¦ŸπŸš«

I've not heard of this Sundew πŸ˜ƒ I like the look of them I'll see how I get on with a cape sundew and I'll probably no doubt want to try my luck again with a Venus flytrap Interesting read πŸ‘πŸΌ
@Seymour very interesting πŸ€” I think I need to just try and keep what I have alive for now.. this plant reminds me of a walking stick bug! 😝
I love drosera binata! I had one last year. Unfortunately this year I accidentally let it dry out and it began a downhill spiral from there (R.I.P) I do have some in a few Sarracenia pots that came with them (unknown to me).
They're beautiful plants though, drosera in general are beautiful. πŸ˜„
@Chevysgirl11 @CourtlyKingfern @Merranda
I didn’t plan to have a forked sundew, it turned up growing in one of my VFT pots and I just reported it and it has taken off (even have one in my CP ultimate terrarium) but I find them intriguing as I wonder why they are shaped the way they are? What’s the benefit ?
I am growing some more from seeds (I hope )
Evelyn, how is your foray into CPs going so far ?
@Seymour my plants are hanging in there. The ones with the most β€œshock adjustments” are the vft and the pitcher plant. The Sarracenia & others have actually already perked up a good bid I believe. Thanks for asking. Up this early am with flood warnings around my area from hurricane Debbie in my area. 🫣
How cool is that
@SweetAzurebluet Harriet, this is the place you want to be to learn about Cape Sundews and other #carnivorousplants.
@oldplantlady Thanks much, definitely will join the group!
@Seymour here are my plants as of this am.. you tell me how you think they are … since you are the pro here! Thanks for any tips. I only water the last pitcher plants about every 3 days but not sitting in water like the rest
@Merranda man! I never win the bonus plant lottery.
@HeraMonstera I've only ever won the bonus plant lottery with California Carnivores. Majority of the plants I recieve from there come with bonus plants! Of course, not all plants will have them. There's a video on their yt channel that helps you identify what hitchhiking plants are in your pots, lol! I've mainly gotten Drosera Binata and Drosera Capensis as bonuses :) Hopefully sometime soon you'll get some bonus plants ! 😁
@Merranda that is a hot tip! It is definitely an incentive to order from them. 😏
@Seymour they're by far the most fascinating sundews I own
@PleaseLeaf Wow. Do, they are great examples of forked sundews you have ! Thanks for sharing πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸ€—πŸ˜€πŸ™
@CourtlyKingfern Hey Evelyn they all look very healthy and happy so you are a natural at CPs by the looks of things! Hope they bring lots of joy and fun for the family πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ€©πŸ₯°
