#HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #Lilac trying to determine what type of disease is taking over my boomerang lilac tree. Iβve tried to investigate but not sure if itβs fungal, bacterial? Please help!
@IdealRosygarlic assuming it is bacterial or fungal, the treatment is usually the same so I would recommend a good natural antifungal/antibacterial like neem oil (I use WeTheWild Protect Spray #WetheWild . You may need to cut off the worst affected parts.
Boomerang lilac trees can be susceptible to a number of diseases, including:
Powdery mildew
A white, powdery coating on the leaves that can reduce the vigor of the plant. This fungus thrives in humid weather, so it's important to ensure good air circulation around the plant.
Bacterial blight
This disease causes blackened, wilted leaves and shoots, often after a period of wet weather. It starts as brown spots on the leaves and stems in early spring, which turn black over time.
Leaf spot
A fungal problem that causes tan spots to appear on the leaves. This is also caused by high humidity, so it's important to thin the shrub and clean up fallen debris.
Root rot
Caused by overwatering and poor drainage.
Heat stress
This can cause wilting, scorched leaf edges, or premature leaf drop. It occurs when the lilac is exposed to extreme temperatures without enough water.
To help prevent disease, you can: Ensure good air circulation by planting shrubs at least 5β6 feet apart, Prune the plant to enhance airflow, Water properly, and Select resistant varieties.
