@AC73LoveCats pups or babies usually come up from the soil, when it comes from a branch it’s called a Crown, which will grow out and make a new head.
@GemWaxvine23 if you take a crown that is less than 6-8 inches long, and doesn’t have a good established stem, it would most likely wither and die. My oldest Dragon tree is 12 years old. It was braided (which I finally got un-braided), and once I did that, I got a new crown. But a couple of months after that, I got a new pup, and it’s as tall as the rest of the tree! @SillyPlantGirl Thank you I just learned how to save mine that you sent pics of your as one lost all its leaves. I can actually cut the stem and plant it to grow a new plant as it is still alive.
