How do I care for moss ball plants? I made my first moss ball to hold my huperzia carinata. The root ball was watered and then I put about an inch of moss around it, then watered the ball. Can yall spot any mistakes I made with the ball? #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantTherapy #MossBall #Huperzia
Looking good! That’s definitely a show piece moss ball! I’ve got a small maple in a moss ball, which I dunk in water when it needs a drink. How do you plan to water this?
@FamedGymealily yeah I wasn’t sure. Is dunking the best way to ensure it’s thorough? Do you just wait until the ball is dry on the outside?
@user141fc969 the moss might dry out quicker than the soil inside, so it’s a balancing act. Dunking is the easiest, wait until all their bubbles are gone and let it drain and it’s good to go.
Yours might be a bit trickier to dunk, so a slow pour method might work better.
@FamedGymealily I’ll see how the pour method goes. How do you apply fertilizer? Do you put in the dunk water?
@user141fc969 I use a liquid fertilizer at about 1/4 strength in the water once a month.
@FamedGymealily I got a hook so I could do the dunk method. Put a tiny splash of orchid fertilizer in the water. It went great thanks for the advice!
@user141fc969 That’s a smart idea, I’ll have to remember that. Happy growing!
