When growing new seeds I always tape up the hole on the bottom of the pot and put plastic wrap over the top sealed with a rubber band to create the greenhouse effect. I water it plenty and place it in a bright sunny window and eventually it sprouts and I keep it like that until the plant is getting close to touching the plastic. Itβs always good to have a light wind from a fan blowing on it for about and hour everyday to keep its stems strong and preventing them from becoming leggy. Hopefully this helps with your cucumber journey! π
Im growing a cucumber plant this year and its my first year also! Mine is thriving on a smaller trellis and is actually outgrowing it quick. Giving it something for it to naturally hold on to while growing will help keeping it from grabbing onto other plants that are next to it. Gently redirecting onto the trellis also is good for when they start to grow more out. Hope this helps some!
@Plantlover19 You honestly donβt need anything special I stick them in garden soil and off they go . Just water daily and you will need a lot more room for it too spread out and produce cucumbers. If youβre doing it indoors I recommend using something like a trellis to let the vines grow out. Hereβs a picture of one of mine . When the leaves start turning brown itβs dying off for the season. Most importantly donβt disturb the vines. Hope this helped a bit.
My mom loves her cucumbers my goodness but the pest pressure they invite are almost as bad as squash
Best advice buy your cucumbers & squash from a local farmers market.
I can grow hundreds of pounds of peppers and tomatoes and I have no problems. I grow one cucumber or squash and its like opening the floodgates for pests
