Can I interest you in another #hoya bloom? The Mathilde is doing me proud. And it it is so beautiful on its trellis that I couldn't even decide which pictures to post. Other than that there are lacunosa blooms everywhere, the Viola preparing as well, the bella is just.... indescribable and the sp. aff. burtoniae is covered in peduncles. Caramel goodness incoming. #plantsmakepeoplehappy #hoyahangout

Oh. I'm also not great with families, @Idplantthat. Sorry. Apart from the burtoniae. I think that those more broadly belong to the acanthostemma section, like asking others, all the others with similar blooms. (heuschkeliana, bilobata, anncajanoae etc).
Yes it's one of the caramel ones. Like, heavenly caramelly. I'm quite excited to have several peduncles this time. I spoke with my hoya lady about the fragrance because she always described it as pungent. From her experience they might change with more blooms. I hope that won't be the case for me, but I look forward to seeing if it does.

Right now, definitely. @Idplantthat . Lacunosas in bloom left and right. I can't keep track. It happens more often than not that I enter a room, am assaulted by floral fragrance and then think "oh, another lacunosa bloom. "
Sadly hoyas are mostly only in the evening. But fear not, the orchids help during daytime. At last right now. This one on particular has the sweetest smell. Way more delicious to my nose than most hoyas. And in enough light and warmth intense enough to fill the whole living room, even with only a few flowers. I can't wait until both spikes are fully open.

@MusicalRedmint oh that’s beautiful! 🤩 I love orchids; my husband killed most of mine by accident one year. He thought they loved sun and took all mine out one day while I was gone. I came to them all dead. ☠️ Bless his heart 🤦♀️ I haven’t replaced them in years, but I recently just ordered one. ☝️
@Idplantthat never give up 😅 I'm currently on a buy stop for orchids. And I myself just lost several, even one of my absolute favorite ones to bacterial rot that I just cannot get rid of, apparently. I just have up and threw it out yesterday, which hurt all the more because it also was my most expensive ones, had the best fragrance in my collection as of yet, beautiful leaves and I was *always* looking forward too it's next bloom.
It happens. I won't give up. I'll wait out the rot situation (hoping it doesn't take out even more of my orchids first) and then try to get back on the horse, once I see a suitable and affordable replacement.
I'll need to have a bit of a financial cushion first, though, because getting a replacement means going to my favorite orchid nursery site and there will be no chance that I'll be leaving with just one plant.

@MusicalRedmint oh no! That’s so awful. I had the rot, and when you love them that much, it’s all the worse off. 😓 That’s terrible! I hope you can find a suitable replacement for it soon. I know that can be the worst, and I completely understand not being able to walk from only buying plants. Never gonna happen. 🤣 What site do you use?

I am blessed/ cursed to live in a country that is not only a neighbor to the Netherlands (which basically is *the* importer, grower and distributer of plants in Europe. But also in a country with a big orchid demand. I somehow fell that most German old ladies have at least one grocery store no ID phal in their windowsill. And this also means we have several great nurseries (that are known to collectors throughout the EU as well) sprinkled across the country - albeit more to the south, meaning I don't visit but buy online. if you want to commiserate or congratulate me on my superb impulse control, just visit the Schwerter site for example. It's a bit clunky, but why not. They are famous enough that they don't need a better online presence. At a time they have listed literal hundreds of beautiful orchids of all species - often very affordable too if you are patient, because they are still young. And that is the tip of the iceberg. They rotate the listings on their site for the more casual buyers. I've learned that collectors don't choose from those hundreds online but can order directly from the official inventory list they give out, which is ridiculously huge. Just a spread sheet filled with 100% orchid bliss.... and the quality is always sublime as well.

@MusicalRedmint I’m like you. I’m terrible with window shopping. Window shopping for me is it ends up in my window. 🤣🤣 But I love it, that’s a great shop and dangerous as well. I actually stumbled upon it a while back and haven’t purchased any yet, but don’t tempt me. I have zero self-control 🤦♀️🤣 self-control are just two funny words that don’t compute in my head 🫶🤫
@Idplantthat color me confused. I thought you were based in Utah? I know they sometimes ship outside the EU, but I've never heard anybody from another continent ordering from them. I mean, they definitely would be worth it, but wouldn't shipping costs, tariffs, and shipping time make this a very expensive purchase with an uncertain outcome (I'm not even sure if living material like this needs to fulfill some additional legal requirements).
But hey, if they ship to the US without any extra hussle? Go for it. They are terrific.

@MusicalRedmint oh yes, that’s why I haven’t purchased them. They don’t ship to the United States. 🤣 but I do have a website that ships to the United States that has a lot of the ones from their website. The website I use has a mix of businesses and private sellers. Sorry, I should have clarified that. That was totally my fault. Not the same site, but I do look at European sites as well as multiple others to see what options are out there and then find a seller who sells what I am looking for. I actually just bought some Japanese apple trees. So I’m excited, but yes all different ranges here and I import, technically I am a licensed nursery; so I can import under my license. 🪪 for clarity..

When I've bought from ecuagenera Europe, I've found myself looking up their US and Ecuadorian sites 😅. And i do love to stalk e.g. unsolicited plant talk's to look at some hoyas. But more often look to US sites in envy because you can still find divisions of the Iwanagara Apple Blossom in your neck of the woods. (Or at least you still could a while ago) And I've desperately wanted that one for quite some time now. 😅

Let’s see if I can track something down for you! 🥰 I actually bought a few hoys just recently from “unsolicited plants,” that’s the site I keep saying don’t tempt us with. I have zero self-control, but the plants they send are so incredible it makes it worth it. 🤣🤣 I’m so glad you understand and you do the same thing! Makes me happy to hear I’m not alone in my plant stalking.
@Idplantthat Nope. Plant stalking is a must. Sometimes only because I'm a nerd and interested not only in plants but e.g. the useless knowlege surrounding it like "I wonder how US prices compare to ours" etc.

@MusicalRedmint I’m definitely going to look it up. I actually jumped back on Greg to look into it. I do the same thing: check prices in the European and Asian markets to know what you’re paying and to make sure it’s worth paying for all the red tape to get here. I had my last shipment arrive from Asia a little earlier than expected. Not complaining, just wasn’t as prepared; and it was the first order, so it was a tester order. But I’m excited, but also now I’m just tripping over everything getting it ready. But what arrived today was the Japanese Fuji, a Japanese Gunmar honey, and a Sugarcrisp— if you like apples. Or rare and interesting fruits, I’m your girl! 🤣 I’m still trying to find someone who sells avocado variegated, and I had once, but it was terrible, and only two variegated coffee plants made it. But I at least have those! 🤣
