Bing Cherries Gone WILD! 🍒
A neighbor/friend has a big ole VERY happy cherry tree and they invited us to come pick.
I’ve never seen a tree this heavily laden with cherries…we picked about 10 lbs in 30 minutes! 😮❤️
Now we decide what to do with them: freeze…dehydrate…EAT 😋

After bragging so fiercely, I feel obliged to update you…
Yesterday morning I was cleaning up the trays that the cherries had dried on, and I noticed a few pieces of what looked like rice.
But then the rice started moving. Fly larvae 😬
After a few deep breaths, I tried pitting a few and putting them in water to see if the larvae would float to the top as the interweb said they would. They did not.
I conferred with my daughter, and (please don’t judge us here) we observed them like amateur scientists for a surprisingly long time and then surrendered them and their sweet juicy incubators to the compost green bin. Where we thought they’d feel right at home.
At least we had fun picking them 🙌 And we got some unexpected protein from the many we ate before they came alive 😂🍒

A while back I chowed down on some cookies I had brought home from Lazy Acres in Encinitas, a fairly nice place to shop. Anyway when I was done I noticed movement on the counter and discovered the box of cookies were covered in teeny tiny ants 🐜 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜. The teeniest ones I’ve ever seen!!! Or actually not seen until too late😬. I was so creeped out I think I ended up having to take a shower 🚿 🛁🤪. I’m 99.99% sure they came from the store because I couldn’t find a source/trail and once I cleaned up the counter, they were gone 😮

Awe, 😢 that stinks! I'm in the same boat as @Mamalinne my chickens would have eaten that stuff right up. I found huge grubs the other day. I took a plant saucer filled it up, and then said here chick chicky and they went absolutely nuts for their fat, juicy, tasty treats!!!
Deb mine also love those stinky black fly larvae. I always have a bucket filled for a healthy treat! I think that's why they follow me everywhere I throw them bugs when I find them.
I picked peaches from my tree and they were all deformed and misshapen. Very sweet and delicious. But, ugly!!!
Those poor peaches have "cat facing" from Lygus bugs feeding on the blooms. It creates really distorted fruit. I was so sad. Next year I will be sure to take preventative measures so they don't feed on the blooms. I guess those bugs are very common out here. Living is learning.
