Adding another to my Christmas Cactus collection! Absolutely love the color! #happyplants #christmascactus #plantaddict
4ft to light, direct
4β pot with drainage
Last watered 2 months ago
@pinklady98 Hi Adrianna, welcome to Greg. I don't think the red color is a good thing. When the leaves turn that color it indicates stress and that it's getting too much sunlight. Holiday cactus thrives and prefers bright indirect light without any sun on its leaves.
Oh jeez. I didn't know and was just given this one. @princesspitstop
@pinklady98 My resolution was to chill on my unsolicited advice but I had to let you know because it's such a beautiful cactus! β€οΈ
@pinklady98 It will be ok. Just move it away from direct sunlight. It will start turning green again ππ
I absolutely appreciate it! It was my grandma's and she gave it to me. Just need to get it in better conditions now! Thank you again!! @princesspitstop
@pinklady98 Awe your welcome sweetie. Plants from Grandma's are the best kind β€οΈ
@pinklady98 I agree with Heidi @princesspitstop . While your thanksgiving cactus is indeed a cactus, they are a jungle cactus, and they usually grow as epiphytes, clinging on to a tree trunk with their roots. So think more *dappled* sunlight for the conditions. Mine are all okay with 2-3 hours of some sunshine on them, but Iβm a lot further north than Heidi in TX, and my sunshine in Oregon is weaker than the light she gets βοΈ
How long has it been since you received this cactus? Is the spot you have it currently in full sun all day? Or was it in full sun at your grandmas?
Yours does look quite thirsty and droopy. But if you give it a TON of water, now, it will overwhelm their weak root system. So while youβre in recovery mode, aim to keep the soil barely lightly damp (not ever dry, but not ever fully saturated/soaking wet) for as long as it takes to see new growth begin. To start, and with a saucer below it, I might give it a drizzle of water around the top of the soil, wait 30-60min (just depending on how quickly the soil soaks it up) and then give it another drizzle, continuing like this until you get to the stage where all the soil is lightly damp. Then keep it like that during recovery, You donβt have to keep watering as frequently as that initial βre-wetting,β Just check every few days and give a small drink when needed to keep the soil lightly moist. Once you see new growth up top you can fall back into a regular wet-dry watering cycle π¦
Once youβre in a regular watering cycle, they do still prefer drying out thoroughly, but they donβt want to *stay* dry, like a typical desert cactus. π΅ I aim to water mine the day or two after the soil has entirely dried out. Best of luck to Orlando Bloom, and feel free to reach out to us with anymore questions β₯οΈ
