An exciting development for Dr. Purkinje 🌱
Named after Jan Evangelista Purkyně, whose eponymous Purkinje fibres form part of the heart’s rapid ventricular conduction system.
I chose the name because Alocasia Frydek leaves already look suspiciously anatomical — enormous green surfaces crossed by a striking vascular network

@Pothead_Poet Colocasias are not as finiky as Alocasia. Colocasia you can plant directly in water like a pond for example. & hard to over water. Alocasias will simply drown.
Well draining growing medium that’s has some organic material sandy loamy soil. Any type of soil “near a beach” topsoil is perfect if you live in a coastal area. They can withstand full direct, blasting sun in the heat if watered. But morning to midday sun & afternoon shade is best “at least here” 11am-4pm real scorcher at sea level.
if indoors, I would have at a south facing window.
They can tolerate shade and will do fine. But if you want leave as tall and wide as your chest, they need some good sun.

Of course, all of these different color variations are a different variety. Some are bigger than others.
Bigger growing space keep thoroughly watered in growing season.
They can die back to the ground in winter, but the corms should be plentiful honestly that’s why a lot of mine are in pots. Some tend to crawl & I don’t want them leaving lol. “Easy to get the bulbs out of good soil”
and in winter time you can just put the bulbs in an onion bag and they will be good for a couple of seasons just as long as they don’t dry out completely out and it takes a couple years typically bigger bulb takes longer to dry out of course. Also means the plant will be bigger. The Giants are near the size of a volleyball. 🤯
