Neo P1 or Neo Px - GMO Air Purifying Pothos? Does anyone here on Greg have any insight on this plant and its air purification abilities? I read an article about how it was newly developed and how great it would be at cleaning the air and then found some mixed reviews that made it sound like just a regular pothos with some fancy soil additives and a self watering pot. https://neoplants.com/product/neo-px #GregGang #HappyPlants #airpurifiers #PothosPack #PothWater #Poth #PlantAddict #GoldenPothos #NeonPothos #Epipremnum #epipremnumaureum #EpipremnumPinnatumAlbo #supergreg #ADHDPLANTLOVERS #ADHDrabbithole #theamigos #donttellmyhusbandyoucanmailorderplants
@nellz4estfairyz Hi Nellz, sounds like a marketing ploy as an ordinary Pothos is known for its air purifying abilities (along with many other indoor plants). Here’s a website quote:
β€œ
Pothos stands out for its effectiveness in filtering pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, and xylene”.
And I believe you could find the equivalent to what’s for sale here separately and much more cheaply. I’ve seen similar sales pitches for selling fancy moss terrariums.
In my view, like many similar products, it is overpriced for what it promises when there is a much cheaper product that does a similar job. Having said that, the white paper included makes for interesting reading even if the science is a bit dubious. They admit it’s an ordinary pothos but it’s what they add to it that they claim makes the significant difference (eg pot design) but this is essentially what costs so much.
Thanks for sharing, interesting even if largely marketing in my view.
@Seymour I agree. It’s interesting. It would be more interesting if the plant itself was doing something special! lol I think I will just nurture my golden pothos and try to grow it bigger.
β€œAir purifying” label is just a marketing tactic. Plants indoors cannot effectively purify air to the point of making a difference or having a noticeable effect because our homes have so much air leaking in and out. It’s just impossible to have happen unless it’s in a completely sealed environment like in a spaceship which by the way is where the whole air purifying scheme was adopted from. Because people need oxygen to survive, a group of scientists conducted a study which took place in a completely sealed environment to recreat conditions in a spacecraft which later was adapted in spacecrafts to see if plants could purify air and they did. But like I said, the condition was that it took place in a completely sealed environment. If anyone is concerned about the quality of air in their homes, an air purifier, preferably one with a high-quality HEPA filter will be far more effective.
Just buy 2 pothos and problem solved. Just another gadget to buy and break. Or not work to begin with.
@OrangeGrass that can be true in most be homes. But living in high rises or huge new apartments they are sealed pretty tight and small spaces with lots of fresh Vlatile organic compounds being released from all the new materials. That being said those places can be toxic environments. And tbh you’d need a jungle like my house to make a slight difference lol. But every little bit helps I guess. Even then I say just buy more plants ! Not a tiny device to grow 1 tiny plant lol
@OrangeGrass I like to think that the more plants in my house the higher the overall air quality. πŸ˜ƒ I also support the β€œjust open the window” method. lol but this plant specifically was marketed as 30x more air purification ability. So that got my attention. If there was a plant that had drastically more success in purifying the air I would want one. And I I grew with you, that this seems like a marketing hoax. There are some plant influencers who have reviewed the white papers and say that there is. It much science backing this and they are just selling a regular pothos. lol
@TheConservator I agree. Just buy more plants! πŸͺ΄ Thatbb be is the best advice. And if they happen to be snake plants or pothos, great, and all the others are great too. This did make me looks at my tiny golden pothos in a different light though. Like β€œoh wow you are working your butt off here to make this space better! You go girl!” Or something like that. Honestly I never even really liked pothos, until I realized how easy they were to grow, and my mom gave me a golden pothos cutting. Now I have a couple different ones. Looking forward to the tiny one growing big.
It's fake! The channel Pretty in Green did a few videos on them.
I thought all pothos were air purifiers? That's what I was always told since I was like 6 yrs old.
@LittleSongbird oh wow! I will have to check it out.
@PoisonRosie right? That’s what I thought too, pothos, snake plants, aglaonemas. This GMO pothos was reportedly 30x better at purifying the air than your average pothos. That’s what got me interested. Sounds like it’s too good to be true! I will just stick with my little golden pothos my mom gave me. πŸ˜„ it’s just a baby but it will grow.
@Charli3Plant I’m actually not very familiar with pretty in green but that was coincidentally the 1st video I found criticizing the science behind the neo plant. It’s crazy the scams people come up with.
