Any suggestions for this rubber plant? It’s top heavy and has to lean on the wall. I’ve heard of just chopping it so it can establish a thicker foundation, but I don’t know where to start in fear of messing with the beauty of it. #RubberPlant
Try cutting the side to equal it out or change the pot
Pruning a rubber tree can feel scary, but it’s the best way to stop it from growing gangly and encourage it to branch out. Plus, the cuttings root easily if you want to propagate them!
You can safely remove up to 50% of the canopy, or less if you’re nervous. Just make your cut right above a leaf node (where a leaf meets the stem) and the plant will push out new growth from that spot.
Wear gloves and have a cloth ready to dab the cut site, rubber trees release a milky sap when pruned.
That’s a beautiful plant just put it in a bigger pot
I bought some large plant stakes on Amazon. They are for snake plants but work great! I’ve also bought wooden dowels in various sizes from Hobby Lobby to use as heavy-duty stakes and attached the branches/stems with large claw clips.
