FEATURE: Pygmy sundews
So I mentioned earlier I had added Pygmy sundews to my βultimate CP terrariumβ as part of #cpclubthursday
So I found a great link to a kids site talking about sundews for those interested in these as Cape sundews are great beginner CP plants.
That site says:
Pygmy sundews: A group of roughly 40 Australian species, they are distinguished by miniature growth, the formation of gemmae for asexual reproduction, and dense formation of hairs in the crown center. These hairs serve to protect the plants from Australia's intense summer sun. Pygmy sundews form the subgenus Bryastrum.
I bought seeds on EBay for a few different species of Pygmy sundews as I wanted some βsummer dormantβ species found near Perth as we headed into winter here (summer in the US). So i planted some seeds in some rehydrated sphagnum moss and they managed to germinate.
So hereβs to Pygmy sundews, very cute and fun to try as something a bit different and unusual.
So many new #cpclubthursdaymemebers and current members who are looking to expand their CP collections so I welcome any questions on these little additions to the sticky leaf CPs.
Add any interesting Carnivorous Plant (CP) facts, photos, or anything CP-related for this week.
Or ask a question of our members related to CPs
Join the CP just by clicking the link #cpclubthursday and clicking join. That is all it takes! Too easy!
There is already a wealth of CP so why not just join our growing CP community at #cpclubthursday!

They are so cute being all miniature!
Are the last two photos of your germinated seeds? @Seymour

@UltraKoreanfir Hey Melisse, there should be a CP Kindle ebook coming your way, let me know if any issues. And yes, although very tiny they are the pygmy sundews that i managed to propagate from seeds i bought as shown above
@Merranda similar yes and some do have summer dormancy (I am speaking of many Australian varieties of both sundews and pygmy subdews). It can depend where they are naturally found at as some need to be dormant in summer due to the hash conditions so they use the winter when they have sufficient moisture while others live in more Mediterranean climates or even colder climes.
But if you want to know more about pygmies let me know .
But aren't you on holidays? Or soon will be . Enjoy Merranda and would you be interested in lending your voice (only if you prefer) to a podcast about sarracenia? Send me an email (see bio/profile) I'd you're interested ππ

@Merranda the drosera capensis does not have a dormant period but the vf does. Iβm not sure about all the others since Iβm a newbie.
@Seymour I almost ordered some the other day but they're soooo tiny so I'm scared they'd die in the mail. I might have to try growing from gemmae which would be a lot of fun!
@PleaseLeaf Hi Bri, nice to hear from you. How is your Cephalotus? Any photos ?
I am loving the pygmies and they are terribly cute π₯° I want more so I may end up buying some as itβs an ideal time of year year for them
