Any suggestions for this rubber plant? Itβs top heavy and has to lean on the wall. Iβve heard of just chopping it so it can establish a thicker foundation, but I donβt know where to start in fear of messing with the beauty of it. #RubberPlant
Pruning a rubber tree can feel scary, but itβs the best way to stop it from growing gangly and encourage it to branch out. Plus, the cuttings root easily if you want to propagate them!
You can safely remove up to 50% of the canopy, or less if youβre nervous. Just make your cut right above a leaf node (where a leaf meets the stem) and the plant will push out new growth from that spot.
Wear gloves and have a cloth ready to dab the cut site, rubber trees release a milky sap when pruned.
