Hi everyone, this is Anclote Key State Park. Oak trees, yellow pines and sable palms . Off shore in the Gulf near Tarpon Springs Florida. Thank you, so much, for you wonderful comments and support. I am an avid gardener, musician and Florida landscape wildlife photographer and a quasi retired teacher. In other words, I still am teaching privately. I left teaching in public schools during the pandemic and have not looked back.Since I do not get on Facebook anymore I found Greg to be a great place. @Idplantthat , thank you. I took this photo before the state of Florida made Anclote Key a State Park. My ex father-in-law had a boat and we used to go out there. At that time anyone could go into the lighthouse and climb up to the top. Since then it became a state park it’s very limited.
@Idplantthat , good morning thank you for your comment. I believe that lighthouse was built during World War II. The state of Florida has always owned that key, (island) However, it wasn’t until more recent years they turned it into a state park. Prior to that and anyone could go in that lighthouse as it had been long abandoned, and it was a bit dangerous to come up in it before it had big holes in the floor, pulling up to the top. Since the state turned it into a state park, they have limited access to the lighthouse. Prior to that I need several people had boats and we will go out there often. They still have excursions that go out there from Tarpon Springs. We went out there on my birthday however, the public excursions that are available. do not go to the lighthouse area. Since the state turned into a park, they have restored the lighthouse it does work. However, it’s only four nostalgic or ornamental reasons. Certainly not for navigation purposes. There are no ships they can come in that close. The water it’s only about 15 feet deep near that island.
