Update on Terrarium!

At the end of september I posted on here with a terrarium I just built- now, 5 months later, it looks amazing!! The first two pictures are the before and the rest are from ones taken today- can’t believe the progress! πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

@LikelyDaboecia It’s gorgeous ! I love everything about it and the design is awesome . πŸ‘
Looks great! For some reason the white fittonia always seem to grow faster than the reds. I think they need a trim βœ‚οΈβœ‚οΈβœ‚οΈ
@Araceae Definitely need a trim! πŸ˜‚ They seriously grow like mad, although the red ones are actually from cuttings which is why they’ve taken a bit longer- whereas my white fittonias already had established roots, coming straight from a mini pot πŸ₯°
Lovey! The waterfall has me mesmerized
Danger Will Rogers, danger. Um, so how did you do the waterfall? Not that I would duplicate it. Never….
Lovely!!
@PoliteBiancini Omg I would be thrilled if you replicated it!! I had so much fun making it- hold on, in another post I explained in detail- i’ll copy and paste it here. If you do end up trying it pls tag me! Would love to see πŸ₯°

The Water Display
This part was tricky I wont lie but after looking my online I leaned there’s a few ways to go around it. My method was resin.

- Surrounding

My rocks (Dragon stone) I just got online was the surrounding kinda orange rocks but there’s plenty suitable ones, I just liked it for the height it has. I used the bag they came in as a strong base to hold the resin. Since the water pool doesn’t go to the bottom of the jar I wanted to minimise leakage between layers. After I moulded the soil to fit the β€˜basin’ for the stones and the resin I cut a section of the bag and put it under, held down by the rocks. I also used a thick piece of black plastic at the edge of the glass- like rubber. Then just added some little stones as a layer under the water to try slow drainage until it dried

- Water
Like I’ve said before it was resin I used- its super simple but be very cautious, as it dries (resin + resin hardener) the fumes are toxic, make sure your space is open, for me I had a garage I could use to leave it there whilst it dried (24h each layer). All my 5 layers slightly different shades of blue/ green for depth since it dries best and quickest in small doses until I was happy with the height (it sunk a little with each but that was ok)

- Waterfall
The last part was the most annoying- I used a β€˜moving water effect’, you get them just at craft shops or on amazon. It was very easy to use, simply β€˜draw’ out your design with the nozzle on some non-stick paper (I used wax paper) and let it dry, i’m just pernickety so it took me a while until I was happy. Then simply glued them! Filling the parts where they come out with the same water effect and added some to the bottom for texture.
@LikelyDaboecia wow! That’s incredible. I love seeing before and after pictures. It looks like a real jungle now! 🀩
Beautiful done! ❀️ It looks amazing
Yes, very much jungle vibe!
It’s beautiful 😍!!!
@LikelyDaboecia

Hi Hollie!

To me, your creation looks like it's a fairy garden...lovely! 🌹
WOW!
Thank you
Omd it’s gorgeous!!! Are those clippings from some mature plants you have? I love them!! I’m considering chucking my current terrarium bc it just keeps going moldy πŸ˜” well done for keeping yours so healthy and beautiful!!
Youve just given me the extra push i needed to get mine going becaue of how gorgeous yours are! @LikelyDaboecia
@PiousWaterfern Honestly don’t be discouraged! This is actually my second attempt, the first one was just a total disaster. So, some of the plants are clippings and some are from little mini plants I (carefully) separated and dispersed. The red nerve plants and peacock ferns are cuttings- the white nerve plants and ferns are from nursery pots.

If you have any questions or need any advice i’m more than happy to pitch in! It’s such a process, it took me ages to get it right
@bellasmomma Thank you so much! If you have any questions or looking for some tips let me know- this was after a very badly failed attempt so I’ve learned from many mistakes πŸ˜‚

If you remember come back here or tag me in a post, can’t wait to see what you do ❀️
@CutePolypremum Ah! Thank you so so much!

That was actually the original idea- i’m so excited there’s at least a remnant of what I wanted at first πŸ˜…

At the start I was going to replace the white nerve plants with some polka dot plants and add a little fairy hut- turns out they were far too delicate for me so I changed to a more jurassic feel πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚
