#GregPlantShop #PlantMail UNBOXING goodies from the Greg shop!!
A wonderful late birthday gift from the awesome @Seymour, he’s a wonderful friend πŸ’š

A Venus fly trap, who needs a name 🫣 I’ll link a name suggestion post for that β€”> https://greg.app/question/1w77e4/name-suggestions-for-vft-hello-friends-my-new-vft-needs-a-name-im-pretty-open-to-anything-so-let-me

And a little warty, Pebbles! I love a textured plant, they’re fun to pet

Unfortunately shipping took some time due to the holiday weekend, so they were out there for a while, but the plants survived! They just took some cleaning up. They’re both enjoying bright grow lights. I was more worried for the VFT than the hardy gasteria, and there were only a few trap casualties.

I kind of wish there was some note included in the boxes that gives any information about the plants/care tips as I feel some people may find it useful, or even some information about what soil is currently in the pots and the conditions/water they’ve been kept in…
Both were packed well enough to where nothing was chipped or torn. The warty did make quite a mess with dirt since it’s just packed in some paper like a cup and the pot was warped, but it has some beautiful roots #RootPorn
And the VFT needed a lot of cleaning, but the soil was still very moist even though it was in shipping for like 5 days in the heat.

(Look in comments for more photos)

The warty mess, but packed tightly in paper. Only thing I noticed was these small abrasions on two leaves. Not sure if they’re just sun damage or physical abrasions, but it looked very good otherwise. Good roots and new pups growing!
1st pic is right after unpacking. Some very icky traps, but the 2nd pic is it all cleaned up and under the light! πŸ’‘πŸŒ±
The other traps look pretty good, and they’re a nice juicy size. Most of those big ones are about an inch to inch and a half (or around 2.5-3.5cm)
@itsjordan Hey Jordan, better late than never I guess. I didn’t anticipate you naming me as just glad to finally get to you your second CP (only just missed being CP no. 1 but I would recommend a cape sundew as a first CP anyway)
I have already made suggestions to the Greg team about a fact care sheet for VFTs and eg suggesting only 4 hours light is inadequate!
I think the delivery could have been better but I will add what the wonderful Erika said about feedback in a photo. So if you did a video you can shoot it through.
So glad you have now broken through the CP barrier (finally) and I would have always loved a VFT for my birthday πŸŽ‚ πŸ˜‚
Pebbles makes me think of the Flintstones character
, well before your young years. Enjoy your VFT, see you at #cpclubthursday this week hopefully 🀞
Have fun 🀩
@itsjordan I’m a bit concerned their VFTs tend to appear β€œdroopy” as this is not normal for VFTs. Compared to eg Pinky Gossamer (named by Greggers! eg #HelpMeNameMyPlant
I will add Erika here so she can note my concerned these VFTs are too droopy in my opinion as I think it is due to the way they are cultivated and the conditions used (maybe only 4 hours of light πŸ’‘ LOL πŸ˜‚ )

https://greg.app/Seymour/plants/8c6d6810/
@Seymour hey I know Pebbles from flintstones! πŸ˜‚

And I was thinking the same about the droopiness, I was hoping maybe it’d perk up after some much needed long lightβ€” I keep all of my plants under the light for 12 hours. The sundew has been doing GREAT with it, it perked up and started producing dew almost immediately, so 🀞 for the VFT?
@LaSiguanaba @JesssJungle
Do you agree the Greg Store VFTs seem a bit droopy to you? Have they gotten better from when they first arrived ?
Are they as good as VFTs from elsewhere? @Macstracks did you get a Greg store VFT too? Droopy?
@itsjordan let me know, I think they may not be giving the VFT the best conditions, it would be interesting to check the mineral levels when delivered . I usually flush out the pots with distilled water until the water rinses out is less than 50ppm. It part of my ritual when I buy any new plant as I know many retail suppliers of CPs just use ordinary two water. Let me know if the VFT picks up.
Now to come up with a cool VFT name better than Count Trapula (brilliant name for a VFT)
@Seymour I did and it arrived a little on the droopy side but the new traps that are growing in now are looking much stronger tbh
@Seymour count trapula is pretty great I must say πŸ˜‚ πŸ§›
Also @itsjordan πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ€œπŸ€› HELL YEAH on receiving a VFT!! They are Dope AF!!! Your gonna love it
Maybe I’m wrong @Seymour but it seems like no matter where I have purchased they all look eeeehhhhh until those traps drop and grow back…at least it seems like they grow back much stronger πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
@Macstracks That’s interestingβ€” the perkiest traps for mine are the new ones that are still forming, the stems themselves feel pretty firm and sturdy compared to the droopy, soft open traps… so perhaps there is hope for when new traps decide to grow πŸ€”
@itsjordan Right..wait till those grow out they are going the be AMAZING 🀩🀩🀩🀩
@Macstracks @itsjordan
Sounds like the way they cultivate the VFTs are making them a bit leggy 🦡
Jordan, you just reminded me I was going to do a post on VFT names, stay tuned I will add you as I don’t know if you are a #theamigos or not ?
@itsjordan PS I didn’t come up with Count Trapula πŸ§› but I do have permission to use it mahahahahah
@coffeeNcalathea thank you!! ✨🌱
My package will be here Friday πŸ₯°πŸͺ΄
@itsjordan I got mine on Tuesday and had allllll the same thoughts/experience with my VFT.
@Macstracks @Seymour It sounds like they grow new traps fairly fast ? I’m getting closer by the day to getting one.
@coffeeNcalathea Hi Bianca , did you know Roger Corman of LSOH fame died recently, I posted about it at #cpclubthursday .
I know, I know… Suddenly Seymour !
@martin Awesome, thanks! πŸ™‚πŸŒ± happy to hear that things are in the works
@LaSiguanaba see above, may be relevant for your Greg VFT (name escapes me at the moment) especially Martin’s comment
@coffeeNcalathea have you seen the original with Jack Nicholson? See my posts at #cpclubthursday
Made on a shoestring
I know one Gregger @LaSiguanaba who saw a stage show and that is obviously where the more recent movie came from from . You might even find a Audrey II in a certain Oasis πŸ˜‰
The Greg VFTs are a good start despite the droopy nature, no one needs that
@Seymour So my most recent Greg VFT (Medusa), is living outside at the moment, and is still looking a little droopy. Like others have mentioned, the new growth seems to be less droopy. I’m giving the new VFTs time to acclimate and hopefully, perk up as they grow accustomed to thier new environment. ☺️
@martin Hey, Martin! Not sure where to reach out to πŸ˜…, but I noticed my VFT’s soil separating a bunch and upon inspection saw there was some kind of clothy wrapping around the rhizome, it was looking a little β€œfunky” and icky too. I gave it a dissection and removed the papery prison. The roots were growing through it and were tangled in it, which is obviously a concern for proper root growth and rhizome health. I figure it’s kind of like how some other plants get a mesh/pot cage from commercial plant sellers and it constricts the roots. I was wondering if that could be a contributor to the sad/droopy appearance of the plant πŸ€”

Anyway, the roots and rhizome do look fine otherwise!
@martin Hi, just recieved my VFT today and found this thread adding my plant. I'm a little concerned on the state my plant arrived in. Should I reach out to the team for a replacement? Thanks!
@SiDaGu Hi Sierra, you can always email the team at concierge@greg.com
Hope this helps
@LaSiguanaba @JesssJungle @Macstracks @Merranda
See Jordan’s comment above about the mesh netting around the roots of her VFT
@Seymour I actually just mentioned it in a post as well… I think it’s problematic.
@Seymour man I didn’t even think about that. Mine had one too, but I just took all that off and repotted in Moss. I didn’t even think twice about it. I hate how they do that though. It does seem like it takes off time from the plants existence. And I’m with you @LaSiguanaba if you’re gonna use it cool just let me know so that way I can take it off and not have to guess about it. Wonder how many people are leaving them potted not even knowing about it.
That sucks too because anytime you’re messing with the roots. It tends to create a lot of trauma. So lesson learned always 100% repot I guess. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈοΏΌ
@LaSiguanaba @Seymour @itsjordan @Macstracks
Yepppp I'm gonna repot mine soon. It's beginning to brown and I don't have it in absolute full sun so I don't THINK it's sunburn? I'll have to post a pic later.
@Macstracks @LaSiguanaba @JesssJungle
I'll probably do a new post to alert people to the issue. Good thing Jordan wanted a VFT for their birthday πŸŽ‚!!!
@Seymour @JesssJungle @Macstracks I let Erika know about it.
@Macstracks Right? They really should let people know.
@JesssJungle It’s definitely a good idea to repot.
@Macstracks @JesssJungle @LaSiguanaba
Martin who talks to the growers (see above) is aware of the issue. It's that kind of feedback i am looking for from my US Greg Amigos πŸ‘
@martin Thanks Martin! ☺️

@martin man not sure if I should’ve make a claim..mine are starting to bounce back πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@martin πŸ€œπŸ€› Love it mine even had the rhizome split into more plants πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
@martin πŸ€œπŸ€› wins my man..all wins πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@itsjordan how is yours looking now?
@ClassicalColeus A picture from just now. The older traps never perked up, but the new growth in the middle did. Two of the youngest traps died off, but otherwise seems fine overall still
