#HensAndChicks #TheWateringHole #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #NewGrowth #SucculentLove #OutdoorGrowing #FloweringPlants #PlantLove I want to brag on my #HensAndChicks they are blooming!!! Just wanted to share!! The flower is huge!! πππ»π¦π΅
@HummingbirdMint That a very big bloom , a last hurrah of the plant so to speak. Because the mother rosette (the "hen") of a Hens and Chicks (Sempervivum) is monocarpic. This means the central rosette flowers only once, produces seeds, and then dies. However, before it dies, the mother plant will produce numerous offsets (the "chicks") around its base. These pups will quickly fill in the empty space left by the mother, ensuring the plant as a whole continues to survive and spread. Because of this constant cycle of replacement, an established colony can live for decades. Note that if your "Hens and Chicks" happens to be an Echeveria (which is sometimes called by the same common name), it is actually polycarpic and can bloom multiple times in its life without dying. But Iβm sure you knew all this already.
@HummingbirdMint Beautiful π€©!!
