Philodendron El Choco Red
About Philodendron El Choco Red
Philodendrons grow aerial roots that grip the bark of trees, allowing them to grow over 20 feet tall! Their leaves change shape as they climb and can grow larger than a dinner plate. Fossils show Philodendrons growing as far back as 30 million years ago when South America was still connected to Antarctica! ❄️

By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Philodendron El Choco Red after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Check out this new beautiful leaf on my Philodendron 'El choco red'! It's redder than usual, for my pleasure! And growing strong even though we're facing winter here with temperatures of 9ºC (48ºF). I just wish this plant attached itself to the poss mole - it might've already done that with thin roots I can't see, but I think it's just growing next to it. Bummer. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PlantTherapy

Is it just mine of does this attract spider mites like crazy? Every time I turn around it has spider mites. I finally just chopped her up and put ina chop bin checking daily for mites. #Philodendron

What is happening here? Sometimes this plant gets new leafs, but with that also damages himself. No other plant that I have is doing that.

So… this happened 🙃 My Philodendron 'El choco Red' has been through it. It's young, but it battled (and won!) a fungal infection, though it lost a leaf, and just recently unfurled a new one. It's on a moss pole, but no signs of attaching to it yet - I suppose it's still focusing on developing its root system (don't get me wrong, it's been with me for like 3 months, but it's my theory). So YESTERDAY, I was watering it, aaaaand... I saw something growing... BEHIND THE POLE!!! lol and it's growing CONSISTENTLY, as in, it's doubled in size since yesterday!!! (I should mention we just entered spring down here lol) I don't know if it's going to go forward or if it's just going to stop - if it doesn't, I guess I'll have to repot and reposition. Never seen this happen before. It could be something else, too. But it made me laugh and cry at the same time #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth

Meet one of my new pals! #Philodendron 'El Choco Red' I've been searching and dreaming of this one for some time. It's been quite difficult to get a hold of one here in Brazil. I know it's known for being somewhat difficult to take care of, but I'm going to accept the challenge - LOVE this plant, and it fits my love for philos and latin american plants. Its leaves are just beautiful, though the back is not yet as red as it will become. Cannot WAIT to see it develop! Especially once it attaches to the pole! #plantmail #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #PlantCorner

Day two of guttation for Philo El Chaco? I watered my #Philodendron El Chaco Thursday, and we are on day 2 of continuous guttation. I noticed when looking through the light that one of my leaves are thinning/turning yellow. This is the first time I’ve watered it since purchasing this past Monday, and the soil was dry when I did water. He’s been by a humidifier and next to my Silver Dragon Alocasia. How do I help it? Just wait it out? He’s in the original nursery pot still with drainage, and I let him drain completely after watering before putting back in his spot. Help me save him😭🥲 #PhilodendronElChocoRed #PlantAddict #Guttation #NewPlantMom

This philodendron is taking over my living room. I don’t understand how some of my plants are getting so big. They live off NYC tap water. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #NewGrowth #HugeLeaves
