The standard hybrid phalaenopsis is easy to take care of if you adjust care to your conditions and ensure you have good drainage. Dry conditions should use airy orchid or bark mixes with more sphagnum moss while those growing in humid conditions can use less/no sphagnum. I use a very airy mix so I can shower and soak weekly.

With a phalaenopsis orchid, you will experience blooms withering and dropping from the stems after its season of bloom passes, and left behind will be dry thorns. Don't worry, it isn't dead! Just look up some proper plant care after blooms fall and ensure that it can bloom in its following season. Some people's orchids bloom in the spring, while others' bloom in the fall. Mine has a strange reversed cycle of blooming in the winter and remaining dormant all year until that season rolls around again. Just try to recognize the patterns in your plant, it'll be helpful!
