Orchid never seems damp enough? Hello all! I neglected to update on our orchid, Gregās Orchid. 𤣠A while ago there was an unfortunate incident with an air fryer that basically burned the flower stems offā¦. (No husbands were harmed. Just glared at a littleā¦..) But luckily that was the extent of the damage lol. I cut the stems back and the orchid did the rest and just said heck with the rest of both these stems! āļøTL;DR: How do you water your orchids, and why does it seem like it doesnāt like this pot that is designed specifically for orchids lol š Anyway⦠itās in this plastic orchid pot with orchid bark now. thereās always water in the bottom, and I even āchargedā the orchid bark so it stays damper longer. (Some orchid guy on YouTube told me people forget that so lots of orchid bark goes dry too fast unless you soak it in hot water for a day or two first?) But, I still feel like itās not doing much! It seems āokā, it actually has a new leaf growing. Yay! But going off the color and look of the roots, they are green for like one day or two and go back to being silver and dry. The leaves are a bit wilty looking too, not plump and shiny. I just get the feeling itās not quite getting the humidity it wants. Or something. I havenāt fertilized it yet either? I just want it to thrive and give me more flowers! š¤ āļøI was also told when not flowering, itās in a āgrowing phaseā and wants lots of sun, so itās in my S facing kitchen window. Are the orchid chunks just too big?? So moisture escapes too much? Is there something else I should do? How do you guys like to water your orchids anyway? Sorry, Igot caffinated and have lots of questions. 𤣠āļøš¼ #NewGrowth #OrchidLovers #help #ADHDPLANTLOVERS #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PhalaenopsisOrchid #Orchids

What should I do with her? Separate at the new roots for 2 plants or leave her alone? I've had her for a year. #PhalaenopsisOrchid

Well, something had a baby in here⦠This one came with snail damage and an empty shell in the medium so I have had it in a very small amount of moss to monitor for snails and havenāt gotten around to permanent potting it yet, then noticed this little sprout today. This plant has not bloomed for me yet (buds in spikes were hollowed out) and nothing has been pollinated around it since Iāve had it. Itās probably some mystery seed that was in the medium, but hereās hoping itās a germinated seed of the parent that hitched a ride on the roots and managed to survive a repot š¤ #PhalaenopsisOrchid #OrchidLovers

Black spots. Later turning into a hole. Received this orchid as a gift. Thought it was just collision damage but now I'm not so sure.

Why do buds form, then dry and not open? #PhalaenopsisOrchid

Mini Mark āHolmā Sharing for anyone else who, like me, has wanted this orchid for a long time⦠the blooms on these are everything I dreamed ā they are adorable and I cannot stop looking at them. The fragrance reminds me of freesia and lilac, itās light but also kind of intoxicating and it oscillates throughout the day (seems strongest in morning and afternoon). They definitely need high humidity around their roots and do not like to dry out, I had them temporarily potted in slotted pots while quarantining and after a few weeks their leaves started showing signs of being thirsty despite receiving water any time the roots turned white. They seem happy under grow lights so far, given that they have bloomed and continued to bloom as well as started producing fragrance. They were part of a larger order from Bredren Orchids⦠and honestly the orchids I received from them were all in incredible shape (healthy, zero bad roots, all mature plants in spike, reasonable prices). The only thing to note is that some of the other plants (not the mini marks) had signs of snail damage (hollows on spikes where some baby buds had clearly been eaten) and I did find an empty white bush snail shell in one plantās medium during repot, so recommend repotting immediately/carefully as well as isolating the plants for a time (which is good practice in general). (The tissue paper on top of the plants is a short-term measure to protect the medium bc I made the bad decision to order from RarePlantFairy thinking their ridiculous tissue culture upcharge would ensure a clean plant, and it came with a severe infestation of fungus gnats that escaped bathroom jail and I am working to eradicate š) #PhalaenopsisOrchid #Orchid #OrchidLovers #Phalaenopsis #PhalaenopsisMiniMark #BloomingOrchid
