Alocasia Metalhead
About Alocasia Metalhead
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

Finding light for Alocasia Metalhead in your home

Alocasia Metalhead may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Alocasia Metalhead in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Alocasia Metalhead
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Alocasia Metalhead after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Just wanted to share my new purchase! I needed a little plant therapy over the holiday week as we had 20+ people staying in our house & I needed a detox! Anyways, this bad boy was just starin’ at me when I got to HD & so I really had no other option but to bring it home 💁♀️ #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #PLANTMAFIA #AlocasiaAddicts

Okay I’ve posted this before in comments, but I need to make my own post about this new baby of mine, This last week I finally did it… I got my first #alocasia 😱🥳 I’ve been doing tons of research and I just happened to stop at Home Depot right after they had a huge brand new shipment, and there was one beautiful Alocasia sinuata hiding amongst every thing else. It looked like a sad little crocodile (alligator? Which snout is shaped like which?) that needed a home so off with me it came! (Think of THAT what you will 😂) My one question is—I know you’re not supposed to “bury the crown” ie the part where the roots meet the green bits (I am very scientific 🤓), but this seems wobbly to me, especially since this one needs more of a shallow pot. How do you keep it from wobbling while it’s settling in? I made a quick tripod trellis out of 3 chopsticks and gently eased it in around it but idk. 🤷🏼♀️ #HappyPlants #HappyPlace #AlocasiaAddicts #brunchataudreys #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #NewPlantMom #PlantShelfie #PlantCorner #PlantLove #DreamMachine #adhdplantlovers

Help!! Black Velvet Alocasia My black velvet alocasia was one of my first plants and is a few years old now. She was a gift from my dad (who has a super green thumb and can grow anything anywhere). She had three leaves when I received her, then got up to five!! Last spring, she started flowering and she’s growing out of the pot. She has not stopped flowering. Everytime I see new growth, IT’S ANOTHER FLOWER!! And she is STRUGGLING now! Only two leaves, one is unhealthy so I’m going to cut it. I’m not sure if she needs to be repotted with how she is growing out of the pot, but I know repotting whole flowering is a huge no-no. I don’t know what to do! Any advice? I tagged her so you can see what she looked like before! I’ll add some photos of what she looks like now on this post!

My arrowhead vine was growing nicely then it just started dying. I moved it once but in the same vicinity. Didn’t think that would hurt him. #Syngonium
