Venus Flytraps Struggling
Really worried about my 2 plants, I got them about a year ago and theyβve recently been struggling. Iβve been making sure that they are properly watered with distilled water in their trays and that they receive prey/nutrients but everything I do doesnt seem to get them out of this struggling phase. A lot of the traps have been turning black and dying, and I had to trim off a bunch them on my first plant, so thatβs why thereβs about 3-4 traps left in it. Is there anything that I can do to revive them and make them thrive? Any help is appreciated, thank you. #VenusFlyTrap #CarnivorousPlants #CarnivorousClub
@ReputableKale80 also not sure how often you keep it in water, but allow that moss to dry out just a little, it can get quite waterlogged and although fly traps like moisture, their roots can rot just like any plant.
@MamaLinne they used to get a lot of light, but Iβll admit theyβve been getting less and less light because the bush they were behind has gotten taller. So I decided to move them to a more exposed spot, hopefully they improve now. Will post an update. π
@ReputableKale80 for the most part I did, watering was less frequent but they still fed off bugs, which Iβm not sure if I shouldβve let happen. Still kind of new to taking care of these kind of plants, and am a little lost on how to properly care during dormancy period. π
@ReputableKale80 oh I do, sometimes I will skip a day of watering so that I donβt overwater. Recently I checked the roots while trimming off dead traps and they didnβt look rotted luckily.
@ivysflytraps26 thatβs understandable, they arenβt really your usual houseplant so most of the common care practices tend to hurt this plant rather than help it. Most people recommend keeping keeping them in a Tupperware container in the the crisping bin in your fridge on a little moss, just keep it moist but they have to stay at a consistent 40ish degrees. And they donβt really eat during that phase so you donβt have to feed them bugs.
@ivysflytraps26 it honestly might bounce back, it just might not have the strength at the moment. I wish you the best of luck!
