Thai Basil

Just bought this baby from the nursery as I have failed to grow from seeds. Iโ€™m a total newbie in gardening and planting. Can someone share with me on what I need to do next? Iโ€™m trying to grow my own herb garden as Iโ€™ve always been wasting whenever I want to cook buying from the supermarket. It is sitting in the balcony full of afternoon - evening sun unless it rains. Any advice appreciated.. thanks! #thaibasil

Basil likes to stay moist and requires approximately 1 inch of water every week. Water deeply at least once a week to keep roots growing deep and the soil moist. Basil growing in containers will need more frequent watering. Your goal when growing basil in a container is to keep the soil from drying out.

Basil needs a warm and sunny spot to thrive. 1 Six to eight hours of direct sunlight is perfect, though if you live in a really hot climate, give your basil some afternoon shade. For basil to take off, the soil and air need to be fairly warm, so don't rush putting out your plants in the spring.

Harvest it often to encourage new growth.
@KikiGoldblatt How do I harvest it? I read somewhere I need to cut off the flowers too? Iโ€™m living in a tropical climate so warm and sun is not an issue
@Cashmeres Here is a YouTube link on how to do it. I know you trim it at a node.

@KikiGoldblatt Thank you! I have seen a few videos. Will start pruning it and removing the flowers soon.. :)
Yes- pinch off the flowers to continue to push the energy downward. I usually clip off a stem nearer the top when I am using it in meals. Sometimes, I'll just pick off individual leaves when they are large enough to roll up for easy chopping.
