Cactus ID πŸ₯²

Calling the #CactusClique 🫠 I have this cactus that was labeled β€œCactus” and I’ve just been having the hardest time trying to figure out what type of cactus it is. Even google image search seems to find similar looking ones but not particularly perfectly identical. Has anyone seen one like this before? I had it marked as Rebutia Krainziana but Looking at it again, I don’t think that’s right. Parodia Formosa is looking similar, but still not 100% 🀧 it looks like it’s starting to grow a pup out the side of it if that helps narrow anything down 🫣

Any input is welcome 🫢🏼🌡

@PlantingPeace I have tested it several different ways and I am still coming up with an old lady cactus, species Mammillaria Hahniana. Here is mine.
Could it be a mammillaria pincushion?
@FirstCanna maybe? πŸ˜…πŸ˜πŸ₯² when I look it up I find some that look really similar and then there are others labeled the same that look so different 😰 I see some stretched out that look like if it was squashed into a ball it would look like it. Maybe mine is just too young to tell for now πŸ₯² but I think you might be right when I keep looking. I’ll change it to be that for now at least πŸ₯Ή. Thank you Stacey. πŸ€— you give me hope 🀣
@PlantingPeace you will get it sooner or later no worries😊😊😊
Definitely looks like a mammillaria but hard to tell which type
Once it flowers then it may be much easier to narrow down the search
@PlantingPeace this is my favorite in my arsenal 😍😍😍
It’s a mammillaria too!!!
@FirstCanna that one has awesome spines
Yeah its scary sharp! 🀣🀣🀣🀣 @SirLiquorice
@SirLiquorice yea, @RJG also thinks it’s in the mammillaria family πŸ˜… that’s 3 including @FirstCanna πŸ˜€ I’ll take all your words for it. Hopefully it does flower next year, I hope that will help for sure. πŸ€—
It looks sorta like my golden barrel. πŸ€” ... sorta.
@FirstCanna not gonna lie, you brave 🀣 I’m still nervous of spikes that long 🫣 it’s super cool though 🫢🏼
@sarahsalith 🀣 now I want to see what your golden barrel looks like πŸ€”
@PlantingPeace SORTA looks like this. Mine is more yellow (I keep it outside) - it's pretty small.

I have a Mammillaria, and it SORTA looks like that too- but the wrong colors.

Clearly you're going to have to wait for the expertise of @SirLiquorice οΏΌ
Now that I'm looking again- just disregard my comments! 🀣
@sarahsalith 🀣 I could see how they have similarities πŸ˜… they are a bit diff though. I refuse to disregard your comments. All input is valid πŸ€— even if it helps narrow down what it’s not. πŸ˜‰πŸ₯°
@sarahsalith it’s not a golden barrel but that’s a good guess. But you’ll notice the spines grow out of the bumps that protrude out on mammillarias. The golden barrels don’t have those bumps that protrude out. That’s what makes me think it’s definitely a mammillaria but it’s difficult to tell which one. There’s so many different ones.
Mine looks like the stretched out version of yours and someone told me it looked like a Mother of Hundreds (a mammillaria).
@PlantMompy it does look pretty similar! 😯 only mine doesn’t have any black colored spines 😣 unless that’s some thing that comes later πŸ€”πŸ˜€
Good point! They are definitely harder spines than the white ones. This was given to me when it was the size of the bottom blob years ago so I can't remember if it had them then πŸ˜‚
@PlantingPeace it looks like a Old-lady pincushion, species Mammillaria hahniana.
@KikiGoldblatt interesting! It does look close. I think mine isn’t quest as β€œfluffy” looking, but if it does start to look like it as it matures, it jus at might be 😯
Oh yes cactus. Very helpful πŸ˜‚ Hopefully you got this figured out!
@tango I’ve accepted that o prob won’t know for sure until next year hopefully if it flowers that will help, or if it changes at all in maturing 🫠
@PlantingPeace oh dear πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Don’t you love how helpful these stores are?? Still an adorable cactus! πŸ’• 🌡
@KikiGoldblatt yea, I think you might be right looking at it closer πŸ˜… it just hasn’t gotten those interior fluffs yet 😯 and since that’s a maturity thing, maybe it will puff out soon πŸ€— I’ll switch it’s name for now to mammillaria hahniana πŸ₯°
@tango πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ they be killing me with their tags🫠 πŸ˜
