@CaitlinWatson00 oh I see your subsequent. That is a mother of thousands plants. Don’t feel bad about what I’m about to tell you but do exercise discretion with what you do with it. Did you ever see the movie the gremlins? Cute and fuzzy but don’t feed it past midnight or let it get wet lest it turn into a monster ? I have many of these plants in pots. They are gorgeous. They look extra terrestrial and I am very fond of them. But like the gremlin you don’t feed after midnight, you don’t want these escaping the pot. These plants evolved as aggressive invaders. Their evolutionary adaptation is to reproduce prolifically through plantlets. Next they release toxins into the soil so nothing else can grow a colony can establish….and then take over the entire garden. These plants are the poster child for invasive species and will destroy ecosystems. It is in its early stages …so don’t fret; it will take diligence to keep going back to the garden and pulling any errant before they start to reproduce. Aren’t they cool nonetheless tho?
I think it’s correct. Is it outside?
@kriskrazyplants yep it’s in my front garden bed!
The one I originally posted is in it’s own pot and the other pic is the opposite side of the garden bed
I’m most sure they did
Sorry y’all. I’m Just a bit confused, as when I look up a milky widow’s thrill it doesn’t look anything like what I have and sometimes the app identifies it as lavender scallops as well.
@CaitlinWatson00 what a cool plant. I’m not certain it is that specific kind, but I note what I can see from the leaves and the flowers are consistent with kalanchoe, which are a favorite of mine. I collect mother of thousands plants, which at first I was wondering whether that was what you had. A cursory google search reveals that a Milky Widow’s Thrill can be magenta, pink, orange, yellow or white. Hence not being familiar with this plant I can’t at least confirm it’s kalanchoe and matches some descriptions to what it has been identified as. Does it get plantlets on the edges?
@TexanExpat they do grow little plantlets on the edges! And unfortunately it was this way whenever we moved here and I’m not sure how long it had been vacant before us so they’ve just been growing out of control as you can see from the pics in the comments 😅 I have been wondering if I should clear them out or not, but as I’m still very new to the plant life I wasn’t sure if I should and as you said, they are very cool, but I had no idea they could be so toxic to the soil so thank you for all of the helpful information/advice, I really appreciate it!
@CaitlinWatson00 happy to help. I have been moving mine up to bigger and bigger pots. I think it will make a cool little container garden to have a bunch of these in different size containers next to each other so that’s what I’m gonna start doing. Good luck!
@TexanExpat thank you and same to you! That sure sounds like an awesome idea!
I would believe @TexanExpat and be vigilant.
