I have actually tried these types of experiments for plants with extras I had.
Here is what happens:
1. They start out strong, but within a few months start to struggle.
2. Roots grown in water are different than roots grown in soil. Water roots are very thin, because they don't have to work hard. Roots in soil are thicker and much stronger because they have to work through the soil to reach water.
3. Because of this when they do start to struggle they do not move from water to soil easily and most will die. This is because they have grown the thin roots which sustained them in water, but they were not strong enough support life outside of it.
4. The lifespan of plants in water is shortened significantly. So, long term if you want your plant to thrive for decades they do better in a soil similar to their native habitat.

Hi 👋 @Preciousplants1 ☺️. You can but I wouldn’t. They’re so easy in soil I’m not sure why you’d want them just in water? Any particular issues with yours?
@MariansOasis no I saw a picture off a snake plant in water and was just wondering. Mine seem to be strong and healthy . Thanks
@SuperbRaspfern thank you Shannon. I know that some plant grow well in water but wasn’t sure about the snake plants after I saw the picture so I thought I’d ask. Thank you
@Preciousplants1 Your welcome ❤️, it never hurts to ask. I always say the only bad question in the one you don't ask. It was a good question!
@SuperbRaspfern thank you. Hey I have seen any post from #brunchataudreys . What am I missing?
