#QueenOfTheNight

Soooo a friend of mine gave me this, not even sure what to call it, cutting? Basically looks like a couple of sticks sitting in a pot lol. Any suggestions on how to care for this or to help it thrive? I have it inside because I don’t really have much access to space outside. Oh she also said if any of the leaves fall off, just stick them back into the dirt which I’ve done and now they look like some shriveled fried leaves sticking out of the dirt ha ha #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants #CactusClique #Cactus

Here is some of the good information you can get once you put your Dutchman Pipe, Cactus into your oasis in Greg . 1) it is a queen of the night a.k.a. Dutchman pipe, cactus 2) It will grow from just a green, healthy stem. With lots of good direct sunlight 3) It looks to be in a glazed pot, which won’t allow the roots to dry out as quickly as they like, think cactus well draining soil. If you have a spare terra-cotta pot, it would be happier in there to help the roots dry out a little so they can breathe more. If you’re going to report it, check the roots while you have it out and maybe spray them with a mixture of a teaspoon of peroxide in a spray bottle of water to help fight off any root rot that might be present. 4) maybe back off on the watering as in one of the pictures it says Swiss cheese vine which would take a lot more water than the queen of the night is needing. I may water mine every two weeks or so depending on what the soil feels like. I just got some cuttings from a friend and basically stuck them in the dirt. Added some joyful dirt fertilizer and it’s got a lot of crazy new growth already. Plus I think it is starting to develop a bloom.οΏΌ Good luck! They really are an unusual plant and make quite a statement, especially when the bloom start showing up.
I hope this helps οΏΌ
I only know it's an epiphytic tropical cactus from Mexican rainforests. Sorry πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ just a clue to the care i guess
I suppose the care is similar as easter or christmas or fishbone cactus? Even dragonfruit maybe
When I propped mine I just watered when the soil went dry. And repeated that process . Easy grower .
@Hoyaobsessed well I certainly hope it begins to look like SOMETHING soon. I’m starting to wonder if I’m growing a pot of sticks!
Mine was just a leaf two years ago.now it’s like a good 4” sized plant. A slow grower but oh the blooms are worth it
@Hoyaobsessed I don’t see it in your oasis. Do you have a pic?
Girl I got like 150 ish plants and hardly none in my oasis … lazy lol need tk work on it
@Hoyaobsessed oh okaaay it looks a plant! Nice there’s hope
Yep two years from a single leaf cutting !!!!!
@Hoyaobsessed yours don’t look like sticks though
The mature plants are very β€œsticky” long stick stems with sparse long crazy leaves. Not the prettiest plant grown for the blooms for sure and red maroon color when sun stressed . Can take the sun for sure .
Seriously ugly but is that a sprout I see??
Ok this unbecoming pot of sticks has some #FreshLeafFriday showing LOL
I have one that's in rough shape from me not really knowing how to care for it but it's been a hardy plant! Mine got really leggy from low light, then burned in full sun. It's happier now with a sheer curtain to filter the south-facing sunlight.
@ballondusoleil that’s good to know. I have it pretty close to a grow light so maybe I will move it over a couple of inches.
I think they like the bright light but best to ease them into it!
@AGFox ooo thank you so much!
@Hoyaobsessed I know that mine is reaching for Sunshine as well as yours is. Give him the happiness and joy of the sun. Mine right now is behind The Pool Cage Screening, οΏΌand the Lanai Screening. If a bloom is developing now in that lighting, I will leave him where he’s at due to the fact the sun is only getting hot during the summer and we’re still just in July. I can always back them up a little if necessary. I’m still in the learning process of how much sunlight is filtered by the Screens. Any suggestions of how to figure that out would be appreciated.
@SwiftWolfsbane I enjoy the art of crocheting as well. I did it when my children were young and they each have a single crochet Afghan with a Crosstitch picture of whatever they wanted. One was a moose and a forest the other one of the black panther my boys are now 30 and 35 So, now I crochet for my great nieces and nephews.οΏΌ My grandmother taught me how to finger crochet when I was very young just to keep me busy and out of her hair so I had chains of single crochet that ran all through the house. And then my Godmother taught me how to make those chains into something else. It’s a beautiful thing to create a doily and Afghan, a scrubby where you tie the love into knots and pass it on. οΏΌ
