Did I kill it?

Super amateur here. My sister bought me a Chicago hardy fig tree in March. I went to the local garden center and got all the right soil and fertilizer and the right size pot. Put it outside where there's lots of sun. Water or rain regularly. But now, maybe 6 weeks later, the little leaves that were on it when it came are now shriveled and dry. It's been a bit cold at night (40s mostly, but one or two nights it was in the mid 30s), and sometimes windy, but overall not so cold that the plant shouldn't be able to handle it (I think).
Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

@ILoveMyPlants Sorry forgot to say a constant space indoors will be your best chance of success. Good luck
