Dying floral kalanchoe
I have two floral kalanchoes, one of which has died already. The second one is beginning to wilt and I have no idea why! She is in a small pot in my windowsill. She gets watered when Greg alerts me, is fertilized every now and then, and has proper drainage. She is two years old; I am not certain of their average lifespan. Is there anything I can do to help her out?! Any suggestions would be great! #Kalanchoe
@Syalbert Hello Sydney and welcome to Greg!
It looks like it could be getting overwatered due to no drainage in your pot.
Grow in bright light indoors, and bright, filtered light or morning sun outdoors (summertime only).
Plant kalanchoe in Miracle-Groยฎ Cactus, Palm & Citrus Potting Mix.
Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
Feed kalanchoe with Miracle-Groยฎ Succulent Plant Food.
Prune spent flowers, dead leaves, and shriveled branches.
Create more kalanchoes by breaking off pieces and sticking them in soil so they can form roots.
Keep kalanchoe in the dark 14 hours per day to trigger a re-bloom.

Hi @Syalbert, I saw in your oasis plant card that you have it near the heater. How close? I ask because anytime our plants get heat, they dry up a bit so it could be that your plant is possibly underwatered if itโs being affected by the heater. Heaters rob foliage of moisture as heat mats of hot surfaces dry soil in pots. May I suggest that you check the soil more often and also notice how much heat or air your plant gets from the heater and air vent? I would also check the soil moisture before watering to make sure it isnโt moist but dry. Finally, 1-3 hours of light isnโt enough for this plant to thrive. As we enter winter, they need an additional light source to make up for the light intensity we lose in Autumn and Winter. I would start there ti get to the bottom of things. If that kalanchoe on your oasis is the one you refer to here, it could be that it may need a new pot in a slightly larger size. Usually, these plants will die back a bit to shed old growth then you can give them a slight siesta in a cooler setting to inspire a fresh bloom with new growth. That siesta should be about an hour long but not to an extreme change in temperature when you take it outdoors or when returning it indoors. This causes shock and we donโt want that.
Start with checking the obvious (soil, soil moisture, proximity to heating and cooling vents, roots and such, then pot size) before doing anything else. You can also check for pests that may be sucking the sap out of your plant which can be seen extremely up close. If you have some, shower them off the foliage and keeping an eye on the progress is ideal. Trimming off withered sections can also help the plant stop utilizing valuable nutrients on dead areas when they do best in healthier areas.
I hope this helps. Happy Growing! ๐ฟ
