Moms Gardenia Bush :(
Anyone recognize this? I've read its either bacterial or fungal...but I wouldn't know how to tell the difference :( pruned all of the diseased looking leaves and raked out the bottom about 2 weeks ago, but now its nearly as bad as before. There are, however, a significant amount of new leaves. I dont want to cut back before it blooms this year...SOS! #help #gardenia

While gardenias are tolerant of short dry periods, longer periods of drought can cause leaves and petals to brown from dehydration. If the soil gardenias are planted in is dry to the touch, water immediately to restore the plant's vitality.
If the leaves are looking burned and crispy, then you are likely giving your plant too much direct sunlight during the peak hours of the day. Gardenias enjoy full sun, but too much direct sunlight when the sun is at its hottest will result in burned leaves that will become brown and dry.

@KikiGoldblatt Thank you for the suggestions! These gardenias are planted in my parent's backyard. I would dare to say they are 15+ years old. We live in zone 9A (eastern usa) so, I don't think water is an issue. As for the sun, I would agree since it is on the western side of the house, but this is a newer problem and the other gardenia on the eastern side isn't having the same issue :(
