Why are some of my Gardenias dying?

Hey everyone, I planted a row of gardenias in early may and some are doing really well and then some on the other hand are starting to look sickly with brown and drooping leaves.

They are in afternoon sun and I have an all day watering hose that runs underneath them. I really want to have a hedge of Gardienas ideally so anything you guys can recommend would help! #HappyPlants #help

I wish I knew which was which, but there are two types of gardenias: one that likes shade and one that likes full sun. Here in the south, I usually see the partial shade ones. Maybe yours are getting too much sun. ):

Too much sun not enough water because the sun is drying the water out
