Can I plant gardenias in outdoor containers in Seattle?

I'd say go for it! I'm in the South and it gets super hot and sunny here. Im thinking about giving my gardenia more shade than it has at the moment.
As long as you can bring it in when the temperatures drop and keep it out of scorching sun. ๏ฟผ
