The interesting thing about gardenias is there are two types: one that likes shade and one that likes sun- you've gotta figure out which one you have.
If it's not doing well in the shade, I'd put it outside under some shade for a few days and slowly allow it to have more time in the sun to see how it responds.
Remember to up your watering if it's going to spend time outside in sunny Florida! (:
