Clearance Ring of Fire
Hello. Can anyone tell me if this has pests or fungus? Sheβs a bit sad but seems save able. Thanks in advance! #NewPlants #Philodendron #PestControl #HappyPlants
Do those little white dots scratch off? Sometimes looking at the leaves with your phone flashlight shining through the other side can also help you better see pests. At the very least, I would depot it, spray the whole plant (leaves and roots) thoroughly with your kitchen sprayer, re-pot it in fresh soil (and sterilize the pot you are using), pop it in front of a fan to evaporate the water, then keep it isolated for 6 weeks, checking it every day.
@smushface the little dots donβt wipe off. I tried using a flashlight but I donβt think thereβs anything to see. I did repot it in a chunky soil mix, sprayed it all down and I also trimmed off a lot of root rot. It was in a self watering pot and just completely drowning in there.
Some good advice there from Aly @smushface on treating and quarantining π
If I may poke my nose in here too, itβs possible they may be extra-floral nectaries (EFNβs). And I notice my philodendrons, in particular, get very active in the EFN arena when they are getting too dry or stressed in some way. Since this is a rehab plant, it would make sense to me that it produced lots of them. Doesnβt look like any fungal pathogen I know π€ but then, Iβm only an enthusiastic amateur π All in all your plant looks pretty healthy, if not suffering from some modicum of neglect. If you follow Alyβs recs, and give them good care, I could see this plant being very happy π

@DreamMachine I am also an enthusiastic amateur as well haha! I do appreciate that information because I didnβt know about EFNβs. As I mentioned in my comment, it was completely drowning in its pot at the store for who knows how long. Thatβs definitely a possibility so Iβll just keep an eye on it in its own little corner for now. Thank you!
@DreamMachine agree, they look like EFNs, hopefully the wash and repot got rid of whatever did some nibbling on some of the leaves (the damage looked older) if it was still sticking around bc it otherwise looks pretty healthy π€
