Newbie advice please...

#SpreadingAirplant Hi! Looking for some advice please! Got this plant on a display with 2 other bulbous air plants and have been reading not to soak them. I have misted them daily for last 3 days and today dunked them for about 20 seconds. Leaves are still curled and a bit brown. Do they need more water? Worried re root rot. Any thoughts welcome! TIA πŸ’š

Hi! I’ll add a few hashtags for you #AirPlant but I do soak mine, for 20 min about once every 10-14 days. I soak them upside down and then dry them upside down - if the core gets too wet it’ll rot and that’s death to the plant. πŸŒ±β˜€οΈβ€οΈ
I too have air plants and one or several bulbous plants as well. I soak mine once a week for 30 minutes, remove them from Luke or room temperature water, gently shake upside down to get majority of water out of roots then I , turn them upside down πŸ™ƒ on a towel and let them dry in that position for 6-8 hours before placing them back on their tree bark. I also mist them throughout the week depending on weather. And I fertilize mine once a month during the summer. #PlantMoms #PlantAddict
Hope this helps.
@ProWildprivet that's really helpful, thank you! What kind of fertilizer do you use?
@RealSimpleMama thanks very much, that's really helpful!
@RealSimpleMama @ProWildprivet can I also ask what kind of water you use to soak them? I'm trying to gather rain water where I can but it's a hit or a miss. I've used bottled spring water so far to mist and left soft tap water sit overnight before dunking them. Also, when soaking do you fully submerge with the bulbs in the water too or try and position so it's just the leaves?
@BojeeMoon hi! I use RO water for all of my indoor plants. I never submerge the bulbs for fear that they will rot. And there are air plant-specific fertilizers that you can get but I wouldn’t use it all the time of the leaves will get burned.
I got some air plants from our local science museum and the grower suggested just running them under the faucet for a few seconds every week or 2. I’ve never soaked them & they are doing great months later
So sorry for the overdue response. I’ve been sick with Covid and pneumonia. I’ve had all my air plants for over a year now, and my collection grows every month. I do soak them once a week for 30 minutes. The most important thing to remember, is to gently hold it by the bulb after soaking and gently shake the excess water from roots, and then place it on a towel root or bulbous side up so the water will come out. And leave it upside down for several hours
As far as fertilizer goes. During the summer months. Woohoo four months if that.. Anyway I fertilize once a month and then during winter I only fertilize every other month.
Here’s my babies
The lighter plants need more water them I mist during the week and have a humidifier right below the display they sit out on
Oh another helpful tip. When misting them pick up the plant your misting make sure to get it all the way around the plant but avoid the roots. If u end up with water in the roots you’ll have to leave it upside down πŸ™ƒ to make sure water gets completely out of roots. Hope these tips and things I do help with yours @BojeeMoon
@BojeeMoon I’ll have to look at the fertilizer. Not sure of name. I’ll look at Amazon account
