25 year old Pothos lived most of its life neglected. I've...

@WormWarriorFarm I had to go look at mine and I've got some like that as well. 🤷♀️ Strange I've never noticed that before! Ai says ..White variegation on a Golden Pothos is usually a spontaneous genetic mutation, often called a white sport. To encourage and maintain this unique, marbled coloration, provide your plant with bright, indirect light and prune any all-green stems back to the last variegated leaf.
@WormWarriorFarm Hey, It looks great! 👍 It's possible that 2 different Pothos are planted in the same pot. Try taking a picture of both types of leaves and run them through Google Lens to see what comes up. I'm positive that the yellow/green is a Golden but the white/green could be a couple of different ones. 😊
@WormWarriorFarm I’m impressed that you’ve been able to keep something alive for 25 years! We have a peace lily from May of 2010 that’s still kicking. That’s a record for me!
@princesspitstop
Thank you Heidi. I will do that for sure.
Thank you Heidi. I will do that for sure.
@RefinedSandwort
For real Joy! Especially considering it's not had very much attention. It just sat there with no loving at all until the bug bit me. Lol.

Wait...it literally has both gold and white on a single leaf...??? Could it have mutated? Lol. I've just not seen one like this... Now I am hoping that I'm the only one on planet earth that has one! 🤣 #GoldenVariagatedWhitePothos! 🤣

It amazes me how strong and resilient Pathos are.
They are so forgiving and can bounce back quickly.
No wonder why fungus gnats are attracted to them!! (At least...they're attracted to mine!)

Hi Rob, this article may help. Good luck. Causes of Yellow Variegated Leaves on Pothos
Yellow variegated leaves on a pothos plant can indicate several underlying issues. Understanding these causes is essential for effective plant care.
Common Causes
Cause Description
Overwatering Excess water can lead to root rot, causing leaves to yellow and potentially wilt.
Underwatering Insufficient water can make leaves crispy and yellow, often accompanied by drooping.
Insufficient Light Pothos plants require adequate light; too little can stress the plant, leading to yellowing.
Nutrient Deficiencies Lack of essential nutrients, particularly nitrogen, can cause older leaves to yellow and drop.
Identifying the Issue
Overwatering: Look for wilting leaves and blackened tips.
Underwatering: Check for crispy leaves and drooping vines.
Insufficient Light: Observe if the plant is stretching towards light sources.
Nutrient Deficiencies: Monitor for yellowing in older leaves, indicating a need for fertilization.
Addressing these issues promptly can help restore the health of your pothos plant and prevent further yellowing of the leaves.

Awesome Heidi. We have some unique plants then.

@WormWarriorFarm hahaha for sure!! ☺️
@Malagueña
Thank you.
I think maybe you're thinking I was having a problem. The yellow is the variagated "golden Pothos". I also have white variagation on the same plant which is cool but I didn't know that was possible. I thought maybe I had the only duel variagated Pothos on the planet until Heidi busted my bubble and said hers was too 🤣 @princesspitstop
So no big deal ..we have the only two now Heidi! 🤣 Well...for the moment. 😂
Thank you.

@WormWarriorFarm HAHAHA! Yeah I'm pretty sure now that it's out people are going to come out of the wood work 😂
@WormWarriorFarm , Thank you. I learned something. That’s one of the big reasons I am on Greg. 👍
@Malagueña
Absolutely! This is a great community. I learn something every single day from someone on here. It's totally amazing!
BTW I love the swamp photos you share and the trees growing there... absolutely beautiful.

@WormWarriorFarm , thank you Rob. Greg truly is a great community. I have been doing Florida landscape and wildlife photography as an avocation for a number of years, so I figured I would share some of the landscape photography here. 😁
@Malagueña wow 25 yrs, very impressive and congratulations 🎉
@princesspitstop @WormWarriorFarm Mines over 30 years old and doing the same thing they come out yellow that then turns white . Now I’m going to crawl back in the wood work.
@ILoveMyPlants ☺️ Hi Deb 👋 That's cool! 30 years is a long time to have 1 plant. I'm not sure I could keep something alive that long. 😁 I've never noticed that they did that before. So it's normal. Good to know. 👍
@ILoveMyPlants that’s beautiful Deb. 30 yrs. I’d be happy to keep 1for 10. I have a few leaves that are green with white. I just thought it’s normal like @princesspitstop said hi Heidi 👋🏽
@Preciousplants1 How pretty funny thing is mine start yellow and then turn white. Your Pothos is well on its way too.
@princesspitstop Ya I thought mine was unique too . It starts out yellow then goes white.
@ILoveMyPlants @WormWarriorFarm @princesspitstop Coming out of the woodwork to add I have my 18 year old golden pothos with white variegation too. It just means those leaves got brighter light 😁💡☀️😜
@WormWarriorFarm ooh these photos are beautiful! Looks like they weren’t too neglected? 🥳
@DreamMachine
Hey Nadia...I was hoping you would be somewhere close! Nice Pothos you have there.
I had no plants other than this for many years and just watered it occasionally. A friend of mine took two cuttings from it about 10 years ago. She kept one and started the other for me. She changed the soil and other than watering, this Pothos hasn't had any attention until a few months ago. It was very leggy with sparce leaves. I changed her soil and promised her I'd take better care of her and the turn around has been phenomenal. I think this survivor deserves it. I should have taken "before" pics...I admit, I wasn't always into plants and growing them other than garden vegetables. I told Rachel the other day that I've always grown herbs, gardened and wild crafted but needed a challenge for non native exotics, citrus and bananas.
I started taking care of the Pothos...I guess it's been closer to a year now that I'm thinking about it and just this year I've fell off the deep end adopting non native plants and trees left and right. Mmmm.Maybe I'm feeling guilty and want to make up for her years of neglect by adopting all her kindred! 🤔 The turn around on this plant and the cutting is awesome.

@DreamMachine I remember having this conversation before on #TheWateringHole . Your leaves look huge my Gloria has some like that also . Crawling back in the wood work like an ant .
@WormWarriorFarm aww! I love this 🥰 and Well, it just so happens I have a similar story for mine. Heidi @princesspitstop might remember and I know @ILoveMyPlants Deb does because we were talking about our similar comeback stories last year! Maybe a few months ago? I don’t know, time has no meaning.
I adopted her 16 years ago, I’m pretty sure she was at *least* 2 years old at least, if not more. Her vines were really long, but her previous owner, our former landlord, had her in a dark corner, and so her 12 ft long room encircling vines were all green. Back then, I thought she was a philodendron, so her name is Phyllis. 😅
She’s moved with us, been through hell with me, almost died, been through pests, kittens, babies, (not necessarily in that order 😂) and then, I put her in her prime South facing window spot now and given her the care she deserves after all this time. and lo and behold, she showed me variegated golden yellow white leaves! 🤩😱 Epipremnums have taught me how to be patient and forgiving, because she has forgiven me at my worst. 😭

@DreamMachine That is an awesome story Nadia. Thank you for sharing.
It's amazing what a little calm, peace and care can actually do for a plant. They absolutely pick up on positive vibes and of course, good soil 🤣

@WormWarriorFarm 💯 I feel I’ve read this somewhere, but I know they can feel, see, hear, smell, and hear us. Plus I’m pretty sure they have WAY more senses than we do. So I am constantly talking with and singing to my plants.

There are many studies that show how positive environments directly effect the health of your plants. This is just one of hundreds that have concluded this fact...
In 2018, the furniture company IKEA conducted a famous live social experiment in a Middle Eastern school to visually demonstrate the power of words for Anti-Bullying Day.
The Setup: They took two identical Dracaena plants and housed them in the exact same school environment. Both plants received equal amounts of water, sunlight, and fertilizer.
The Interaction: Students recorded loops of supportive, loving compliments for one plant and harsh, insulting words for the other. These audio tracks were played on a constant loop to the respective plants for 30 days
The Result: The plant fed with love and compliments flourished. It remained bright green, healthy, and upright. Meanwhile, the bullied plant completely wilted, developed dull, browning leaves, and began to sag severely
I think it's safe to say, love your plants, and they will love you back. As long as the fertilizer, temperature, humidity, light, moisture, location and probably a few more things are right... 🤣
