Keiki or Shoot?
This is the second time my phalaenopsis orchid is budding after flowering. I saw this growth a couple weeks ago when it was smaller and assumed it was a new shoot but it looks like it has leaves? Did I grow a keiki?? #phalaenopsisorchid #newgrowth
2β pot without drainage
Last watered 2 weeks ago
Whoa!! @valerieswitch Thatβs wild! It certainly looks like a keiki to me π , but itβs putting out buds too?? π€― Tagging some other orchid-enthusiasts @MusicalRedmint @MariansOasis @smushface @Dawgfreak although I havenβt seen you lately Sonya!
Interesting, it looks like it started growing a Keiki but then also spikedβ¦ it looks like the spikes might actually be coming from the Keiki, but itβs hard to tell.
Because the other spike on the mother plant also has a bud, this makes a certain amount of sense⦠spiking is a hormonal process, and because that Keiki is connected to the mother plant it has access to its nutrient stores (to fuel the blooms) and is going to be influenced by its hormones (triggering blooms). I would try to leave it on the plant at least until it finishes blooming.
Very cool!
