Hollyhocks drop a ton of seeds. If you collect and plant them in the fall, you should have a ton of new plants next spring/summer.

I will chime in with my experience too. The hollyhocks I grew from seed did not flower the first year, but I cut them back in the fall, and they came back with glorious flowers in year two. So be patient with them.
