What’s causing my spider plant to grow vertically?

#SpiderPlant the leaves are getting so long that they break under their own weight. What’s making the leave stand up instead of draping down over the sides? You can see the brown lines where they’ve broken but I got them back into shape.

It’s in a bathroom. Gets bright indirect sunlight every day. And I’ve been following Greg for watering. He had brown tips when we got him (which I understand can be caused by using unfiltered tap water).
Hey Allan, generally inadequate watering is the main cause of leaves bending. Both too much water and too little water will result in leaf bends. Always feel the soil and water the plant when the soil feels dry. Too little light will also cause leaf bend, so keep your spider plant under bright indirect light.
Hi, Allan! I'm glad you found Greg. Sometimes leaves just bend. They grow so long that gravity wins out and pulls them down.

Your plant looks great! It looks very healthy!
Hello Allen. I have the same plant and looks very similar the way it is growing. I just had to repot mine into a smaller pot to encourage faster growth. Overall I think your plan looks happy and healthy.
@PlanTechnik Hi Allan, I agree with Aman. Also it looks like it could be reaching for the light. Try putting it in a brighter spot. Actually people usually say no sunlight, but mine love it! They even stay outside in the sun all summer and grow like crazy!
Ha! I have one that reaches for the stars too! I just thought it was a weirdo.
@AC73LoveCats I’m with you! During the summer my spider plants go outside. They absolutely love it and grow sooo big! With legs and babies everywhere. I’m in Michigan, I’m thinking it’s the humidity here. A lot of plants that say not a lot of sun for some reason to thrive when I put them outside. Winter comes and my house is a jungle summer comes and it’s bare 🀣
@Geminiforest @Joe-sr In Ohio here. πŸ˜… Oh good! Here I thought I was an oddball for having spider plants that go nuts in the sun! In fact when I bring them in, even in a sunny window they protest with brown leaves @PlanTechnik I am thinking the guidelines for spider plants may need to be changed! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #OhioGang #Zone6ers
@AC73LoveCats and all those pups coming off of it. It’s definitely loving that spot!
Yes, and each of those pictured is a separate plant! So it’s not just one weird plant that likes the sun. They are all in sorry shape after the winter inside and I just put them outside on Saturday. Hoping they recover again!
@PlanTechnik thanks for this post. I’m having the same issue. My thoughts were my pot is too big. She gets great morning light. My thinking also is Greg’s watering schedule is too often as my soil is still moist using my moisture meter. πŸͺ΄πŸͺ΄πŸͺ΄
