What do yall think about this potting setup? This is how ...
@user141fc969 I agree ☝️ with @PoaRunner13. If you keep it soaking in water like that, it will die. I’d get some chunky soil mix and pot it up in a pot with drainage and put it in a bright sunny spot in your house. You want the pot to be one size bigger than the rootball so I’d say probably a 6 or 8 inch pot would work.
As long as the rhizome stays above the water line, Alocasia can do well in semi hydro setups. A lot of people swear by them- I have one but it’s kind of a pain to flush it and to get the nutrients and ph right. I live in a dry environment so mine do well in a very chunky, well aerated and well draining soil mix. They also want a good light source up above them to get the stems strong and standing up on their own. The leaves that are laying down are likely a sign that things aren’t well down below, so I would pull it apart gently and check under the hood.
@user141fc969 That's perfect! I was just going to suggest putting holes in its current pot. I honestly don't see a need to immediately repot. 👍
I watched a YouTube video and this is the exact set up of the lady who owned the channel and her Alocasias were superb. I have my Silver Dragon exactly like this and it has grown immensely. It takes a bit first, then it takes off. In addition, put a cover pot over it and keep a little bit of water at the bottom of the cover pot and it will be used as humidity for the plant. 👌 @user141fc969
