So, Voldemort needs assistance.

I have so many questions on my #Philodendron #PhilodendronDarkLord #DarkLord … he’s thriving but lost a top leaf when it was unfurling, I tried to help it out of its sheath and ripped it off. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Now he’s a bit thin on the top #midlifecrisis) and I’m not sure if I should prop it?

Also I think he needs a bigger pot, but he has a baby. And I’m terrified of what would happen to them if I take them out of the pot.

HELP ME I love him but I’m so hesitant to do anything!
1ft to light, indirect
4” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 month ago
I'm usually hesitant too, but I try to remind myself that most plants benefit from a trim now and then, since it stimulates growth. Maybe wait until the end of February, closer to Spring when days are longer and he can bask in the sunshine. Or if you want to water prop, starting it now would mean it might be ready for dirt by Spring!

I have learned to never help my plant leaves. They will do their thing in their own time, and if it just doesn't give it up, then it's spending energy elsewhere. My PPP is slow to release her leaves, but she always has let them out.... eventually.
I’d Leave him be till spring. I had to repot mine and he lost a leaf. He’s recovering but I did feel bad the stress made him drop a leaf.
@RealSimpleMama when and where did you come upon the Dark Lord? I had wanted one for about two years and finally bit the bullet and got one from Ken’s Philodendrons. I just did the same thing with my PPP it happens. These are resilient plants. I would not prop it for the sake of its disfigurement (he’s still beautiful lol). I encourage measured and strategic approach to propagation. When it is over 3’ tall, you can cut it around the midway point; the lower parts will start growing again, but probably two vines at least and will thusly fill in more densely, for the top portion, you have a significant vine that is low risk for calamity and you will have enough leaves at the top end to permit you to remove some of the bottom ones. What I did with my PPP and what I intend to do with my DL is to just take the top portion and plant it directly into the same pot. I am growing mine semi hydro and they rooted effortlessly. I would let the babies grow before you disturb them; I really you can let them just do their thing you will have a very lush multi vine dark lord. Have you seen the Bloody Mary? They are pretty too
@RealSimpleMama The Dark Lord rises…..lol. Ominous. I think he’s my first evil plant.
@TexanExpat hey! I’ve had Voldie for a while but I think I got him from an Etsy shop called The Green Escape.
@RealSimpleMama I know that store. I frequent it often. Was it a starter plant ? I prefer to buy 4” plants from her.
@RealSimpleMama have you perused Ken’s Philodendron? If FAO Schwartz and Neiman Marcus spawned a plant store that was only open half the year…..
@TexanExpat hi! No I haven’t but I can look into it. And yes I only buy starters so that’s what he must have been.
@RealSimpleMama sometimes I order starters and they are so miniscule that I just can’t devote the time and attention unless they can make due in pon, which does work pretty well
@TexanExpat got it - I only order from shops who send huge starters - I got my birthday PPP from The Green Eacape and it was bigger than my head!
@RealSimpleMama wow. I haven’t seen your head really but oh my ha
