drooping alocasia leaf and stem
my alocasia longiloba has one leaf and stem that looks to be falling over. itβs stem is still pretty firm and doesnβt seem to be limp at all. itβs under a grow light for 10-14 hours every day, so it couldnβt be dormancy. its near a water diffuser and gets ample humidity. yesterday morning, before work, around 10:00 am, it was upright, but when i got home yesterday evening around 8:00-9:00pm it looked almost like this. overnight it drooped over slightly further. since itβs stem is still pretty firm, i have no idea what, if anything, could be wrong with her. #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #AlocasiaLongiloba #PlantShelfie

Alocasia are HEAVY feeders (of fertiliser) I wish I knew this sooner π Most of my Alocasia would drop a leaf while making a new one until I started to βfeedβ with every watering. Now my Alocasia are growing new leaves but keeping the old growth too. Try upping your liquid fertiliser and see how it goes (this leaf will probably still die so donβt stress itβs a common alocasia trait and he will make moreπ)
@HoyaAddict woah, i didnβt know that either. iβve scoured forever looking for answers but thatβs probably it. i havenβt fertilized these at all since in my care and lord knows the last time a lot of these were since they were bought at loweβs. what fertilizer do you recommend? i just started using this stuff called βcompost teaβ you let steep in water overnight that releases nutrients into the water. if this isnβt optimal, could you give me some insight on what to look for?
Yours looks like it has a high nitrogen content which is great. Iβve recently start using this and I love it so much all my plants are kicking out some great growth and bigger leaves too. This Is Australian though but some greggers managed to buy it on eBay in the USA. If youβre looking for something in the USA some friends have said happy happy plant food is good. I would look for something with as many nutrients as possible. Trace elements are also important like boron and molybdenum. I wouldnβt stress too much Iβm sure anything you have will definitely work. Just dont use a super strong dose (especially at the start or in winter/dormancy m) use 1/4 or 1/2 recommended dose until you can see your plants are happy. Some strong fertilisers can burn roots so itβs a case of a little often than using a large amount in one dose. π I hope this has helped and let me know how it goes π
@jonathan1124 I completely agree with @HoyaAddict on this π―. She is amazing with plants.
@HoyaAddict i thank you so much! incredible information to use for all of my alocasiaβs. canβt wait to see these guys pushing out new growth. thank you again!
@HoyaAddict if anyone else in the states is looking for this product, itβs also on amazon. almost double the manufacturers price, but you donβt have to pay $95.00 shipping for the travel distance! thanks for all the advice!
@jonathan1124 Good luck hun! Canβt wait to hear about the new growth π
@HoyaAddict is this the same for colocasias? My mojito likes to do something similar
@Nataliesplants Yes! Hungry hungry hippos haha π If theyβre actively growing, I would use fertiliser each feed. A slow release mixed into the top soil can help too if you are too busy/forgetful βΊοΈ Please let me know if your colocasia starts to hold more leaves for you! π€Theyβre also big drinkers more so than even alocasia. π
@HoyaAddict thank you!!! π
@Nataliesplants welcome anytime π₯°
