Can cacti survive without water throughout the winter mon...

😫 my room might be too humid for my cacti.. I found rot on my thimbles 😢… at first I thought it was mealy bugs at the base but it’s mold.. one of the thimbles is ok but the other two are not. I’ve cut the rot and going to let them callous hopefully they’re salvageable.. I removed the new growth from the smaller one to try and propagate them. I even checked my feather cactus just to be safe (it’s ok). I’ve already lost my golden barrel I don’t want to loose these too. I’m going to leave them bare root over night and tomorrow I’m going to put them in captain Jack bonsai mix. But will they be ok if I don’t water them all winter ? I don’t want to rot them. I usually wait about 4-6 weeks to water them . And their mix is very chunky. #CactusClique #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #ThimbleCactus #FeatherCactus #Cactus

Cacti can survive the winter months with limited waterings, about one light watering a month. (Assuming they’re outside where it’s cold enough for them to go dormant) since they don’t have roots yet and will be indoors (with growlights?) I would treat them normally as cacti that don’t have roots. Maybe leave them about 3-4 weeks before checking if they’re growing roots. If you happen to see them start to shrivel after you’ve noticed them producing roots, go ahead and lightly water. I hope they pull through for you! 🤗
Also, a unrelated tip for the Bonsai Jack soil. I use it for all my succulents/cacti and I noticed that their soil sometimes does have finer particles that aren’t always sifted out consistently in it. I got this sieve for sifting soil and I got all these tiny particles out from the chunky stuff 😳
I don’t want to waste it so I’ll use it for something else (idk yet) but this much “fine” stuff came out of it about 1.5g of the mix.

Also, I haven’t had any issues using their soil with these tiny particles in it 😅 I’m just a perfectionist and find it satisfying to remove them and make sure my soil is as free draining as it can be. 🥰
@PlantingPeace thank you.. I will do that.. I’m just bummed because I already lost my golden barrel cactus and it was one of my faves.. right now I checked on my finger lady cactus and it is fine. But I did find a death plug on the roots. I didn’t know they used these for cacti too. 😫
no water might be a bit taxing tbh, i think watering once every one or one and a half months would be fine, preferably on warmer days :) i agree with brigitte!
@NMazon oof 🫢😟 that is odd. I didn’t know they would use them for cacti either😣
Sorry about your golden barrel Too 😞 it’s never fun losing a favorite. 💚
@NMazon you have so great advice from @PlantingPeace.
@strawberrymoon that’s how often I was watering though.. once a month… and this last time I believe 6 weeks passed.. 😕… I might let 7 weeks pass this next time .. at least it was just two thimbles and the rest of my cacti are ok. Thank you
@KikiGoldblatt thank you
