Browning Stem

I am new to plants and trying my hardest to learn! Just potted a bunch of herbs and my Sweet Basil is browning and hardening at the base of the stem. Any advice is welcome!

I just got him a week ago and repotted last Wednesday! The terracotta is drying out super quickly and it’s been really dry here in the mountains.
Oh poor sad basil 😞🌿. It looks like a combo of too many plants in one pot and soil probably too wet. The stem is rotting which means the roots are too. Unfortunately it’s fatal πŸͺ¦ BUT you can propagate that upright stem to try and salvage the plant. Cut above the brown stem to a place where it is green and healthy. Remove the leaf with the brown lesion, and any lower leaves, leaving the top with a set of leaves. Put it in water and wait for new roots. Throw out the soil and any other plants in there. You don’t want to pass on any pathogens to other plants. If this all sounds like a lot you might want to just toss it and try again.
