Haworthia help needed

Lacey has been wobbly at the base since I got her. I replanted it tonight to put it deeper in the pot, but is still wobbly. Plus the roots are dry but dark in color. I’m guessing that is not good. Should I behead it? If so any tips are welcome. #Haworthia #behead #SucculentLove #helpneeded #SucculentSquad

I’m noticing she has a few pups but they have no roots. Should I behead it just below them?
Dark can mean root rot. Were the roots mushy? Is the bottom of the stalk mushy or soft? Are you using true succulent soil? The soil looks quite wet. These plants hate staying wet more than about 24 hours.

If there’s no improvement, cut off the top of the plant at the stem at a point where the leaves above it are healthy. Lay it aside for 24 hours for the cut to callous. Place it on completely dry fresh succulent/cactus soil mixed with perlite 2/1. Prop it up as needed. Keep the top of the soil slightly moist. Do NOT water it. It will sprout roots and be fine. Once it roots well, water it as required by succulents.

These plants need to dry out completely between waterings. Test the soil well down into the dirt. A moisture meter is helpful. You can also get cheap wooden skewers at a dollar store. Stuck one down to the bottom of the pot. if it comes out clean it’s sufficiently dry. It’s the same process as checking a cake for doneness, but you must go down to the bottom. Don’t water just because Greg recommends it. ALWAYS test your soil. If it’s still even damp hit β€œsnooze”. Keep doing this until your plant is ready. Greg will eventually adjust the schedule.

You can continue to use those sticks to prop up the plant until it grows enough good roots to support itself. It eventually will.

Tag me and let me know how it goes or ask more questions.

You can gently remove the pups and place them on soil, too if you like or if they’re in the unhealthy part. They likely won’t grow roots until they’re away from mom. If they’re in the healthy part of the plant, i’d leave them alone so the plant isn’t stressed more.
@TruthfulApricot the soil was dry. It is cactus/succulent soil. I do use a meter. It is in a clay pot. I will cut it and follow your directions. Thank you very much.
@TruthfulApricot place it on top of the soil or in the soil?
