Bonsai growth

I have a bonsai I was gifted from my former supervisor for my birthday (July 10th)
He grew it from a stem Cutting he received earlier this year... he says it's an Australian Weeping Willow. I don't think it's looking too awesome... recommendations on how to help this baby thrive? I really want it to live and I'm anxious as I just lost my Juniper Tree and idk where I went wrong. Meanwhile I have 5 babies that are flourishing (Planted July 26th) and 2 other older bonsais doing great (one even flowers daily) #bonsai #newgrowth #newplantmom #help #needadvice
0ft to light, direct
8” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 year ago
It looks alright to me. Weeping willows naturally have a bit droopy of leaves. It might appreciate a bit more water though. Don't worry about root rot because you have a well-draining soil. Weeping willows tend to grow near ponds and lakes, so they like to be constantly wet.
@iibamBlue it looks ok to me. Check the soil, water if necessary. Then find its spot with adequate light, feed, and water when needed. Happy belated birthday and happy growing!
I love working with #Bonsai too! Time is very important when dealing with bonsais. Water, sunlight, and patience and they most important things. They all tie for first place in my book.

Your willow looks like it's starting out well! Just don't let it dry out since it's so new.

When they are young and when they are in shallow pots, they MUST be watered regularly. Do not rely on Greg's watering reminders becuase you might have your plant card set up to say your pot is 10" in diameter... but there's no way you can tell the Greg app that your pot is 2.5" deep. When a pot is that shallow, it must be watered frequently.

In my experience, the majority of bonsais need to be outside plants; they NEED the sunlight to grow well. I'm going out on a limb to say that maybe your juniper didn't get enough sunlight and might not have gotten enough water. The more sunlight a plants gets, the more water it'll need.

I've killed TWO juniper bonsais. They were already beautiful and I didn't know who to care for them when I fot them. They lasted for months inside, but slowly turned brown and crunchy.

Here's one of my FAVORITE plants. It's my #BrazilianRainTree and I failed to water it for four days and it got HOT here. The plant is going to be fine, but it's going to shed all its leaves and bud again once it gets watered well. (:
I had my Juniper outside cuz I found out it needed to be outside after I had gotten it. I live in Wisconsin and am a night shifter so I'm looking for Indoor plants. It ended up getting sunburn tho so I brought it inside but kept it right next to my east facing window.

As for watering, yeah I don't rely on any app for watering, I listen to what my plants tell me.
